Floor standing speakers below 50K

Thanks Babloo,I can go upto 55K but apart from amp and speakers, I need a dedicated CDP which will cost me around 16K(thinking of marantz 6002) and combining all will not fit in my budget.

Right now you if you plan to invest on CDP no Point as you will have to compromise on Amp and speakers so what i would suggest is 1st Lock on Amp and speakers ,you can also use a normal existing dvd player if you have then you can buy a dedicated CDP.

Cheers!!!!

@Elango,Just now i received ur PM...pls ignore my PM sent to u.

I am really confused if I sud go for CDP 1st then amp then spk.

all suggestions welcome.

Since you are about to start with a stereo setup from scratch...It is better if you start with amplifier + speakers first.... As you can you use your laptop/DVD player as source for the time being....

As & when your budget permits, you can start adding a DAC (or) CDP per your preference...

OK, if with a budget of 40K +/-2K, what can be the best combo(amp+spk), cosidering that mostly i used to listen bollywood songs, room size 10X11 ft.

For amp: norge 2060 + pass b1 or super simple preamp
OR
marantz 5004

for spk:
1. warfwdale 10.2 <most of the hifivision member recomended
2. monitor audio rx1
3. psb spk

all suggestions welcome!

For your budget, neither psb nor MA's rx1 will be feasible alongside the amp/AVR. For bollywood music, I will not recommend wharfdales as they are warm and would not be suitable for bollywood music. Try maurdant short's aviano series. Or the paradigm's monitor series.

@milestoneseeker , I am not much Acquainted with the audio jargon like "warm" "bright".
"warm" means mid bass is ok but treble is dull and "bright" means treble(highs) are clear and overcome the midbass (googled it), pls correct me if i am wrong.

m planning to audition norge amp with diff spk brands. pls suggest if i can audition norge amp anywhere in chennai or b'lore or it can be possible in mumbai only?

Or anybody in chennai owning norge amp with ssp or pass b1 and if i can come for a demo.

Yes, your understanding is correct for the terms warm or bright. When I had auditioned Wharfdale 9.6 and 10.x, I felt the mids were too much recessed and did not go well with some of hindi music which required more open mids. Hence my opinion on Wharfdale/bollywood music. However, do note that my hindi music was more around jagjit singh, kailas kher etc.

Not sure of where to listen to Norge in Bangalore.

Just for confirmation, you are not looking for an AVR and just a stereo amp (no video set up expected)? If so, why restrict yourself to Norge? I believe Yamaha's AS500+some good pair of bookshelves will be within 45k. As would be quite some other stereo amps.

@milestoneseeker, I am much lean towards mordern day singers like javed ali(in raaz3),atif islam, mohit etc as well songs in 90's.
I am looking for stereo amp only not avr.
I am not restricting myself to norge, m opened to other amp as well, but i have seen many gud reviews of norge amp with ss preamp so just will try to have a demo for norge+ssp(if possible) then will compare norge with other amp.

As u said norge 2060 can not be paired with MA or PSB spks, just wan to know if any high end amp from norge(like 1000 gold) can be paired with these spks?

May be this is a very basic que, but just want to know what technical specs of amp can be compared with what technical specs of speakers to get confirmed that a perticular amp can drive a perticular spk??

@elangoas, thnx for the info, soon i will visit thr.

For speakers, efficiency / sensitivity is an important factor... if the speakers are 90+db, then u will need very less amplifier power...

If it is anything less than that, you will need good to very good amplification to get the best...

You can also consider the Norge 1200 Pre/Power amplifier around 25K....

@elangoas, OK..if that is the case, then if possible pls clarify my below specific doubts(got really confused of spk and amp pairing):
eg:
spk 1 - specs:
Frequency response: 45 Hz - 35 kHz
Sensitivity: 89 dB
Nominal impedance: 6 ohms
Power handling: 80 W

spk 2 - specs:
Suitable Amplifier Power 20 - 100 w
Nominal Impedance 6 ?
Sensitivity (1W @ 1M) 86 dB
Nominal Frequency Range 40-24kHz

Here for "spk1" and "spk2" what type of amp(ie with what spec like "output RMS",input sensitivity) is needed to get the best for each of the spk..

Spk -2 will need more power than spk 1....Asssuming both are BS speakers, any amplifier with 50W RMS continuos power can bring the best out of spk 2..

@sam, when I said that within your budget, you would not be able to get a Monitor or PSB speakers alongside an amp, I was truly referring to the budget constraint and not any shortcomings of Norge amps.

I am sure Norge 1000 gold with 80 W RMS @ 8 ohms will be able to drive the MA silver series bookshelves or the PSB Image/Imagine series bookshelves. However, it is for sure you would not be able to buy these speakers within 40k, leave alone buying an amp alongside.

With your budget, I would seriously recommend Sonodyne as from what I have read, they would give serious bang for the buck. Unfortunately, I have not been to hear them in a proper listening set-up here in Bangalore.
