Floorstander Auditions Delhi Impressions, Also need advice

The other day i went to Sight and sound to audition Dali. Source was some cd player and nad integrated.

Dali Ikon 6 @ 80,000: I heard this speaker, although it was a decent sound not something that had the wow factor. Also the speakers were set up straight instead of being toed in towards my ears like in other demo's. The ribbon tweeter definitely contributes to that extra detail in the highs, also the silk tweeter is quite smooth but lacked some of that sparkle like the monitor audio tweeter. Bass was full, had body but the definition was not all that realistic. Midrange was revealing and called attention to it sometimes so much that it stopped being musical for my type of electronic trance music. Good speaker for more easy listening music i would say not complex classical or electronic just my personal opinion though.

Dali Lektor 6 @ 60,000: This speaker i think is more for the younger audience. It is rather musical without being critical, does everything decently. Highs were smooth, mids were there without being overly prominent. Bass was again full, had weight edging towards the party speaker for younger generation. I could be happy with these speakers if i took them home but did not have that wow factor for me.

Musical Fidelity cd player, krell Integrated
Focal Chorus 826 @ 125000 : After hearing great things about focal i was surprised to see sight and sound carry this brand as i did not know they did.i hope the sound i heard was not all magic done by a krell integrated costing 1.75 lakh. But the sound was amazing. The tweeter was perfect for me .... perfect blend of smoothness and sparkle of the MA tweeter so it was a good balance. The mids were not forward/laid back i cant comment on that, just very musical, but with enough details revealed but not making it clinical like the MA. Bass was very controlled but gave you enough insight into the tone of the music. These speakers totally get out of the way and bring the music to life, i kept grooving to the music rather than concentrating on the audition.

According to my taste people looking for speakers and have less time should audition psb image, Monitor Audio silver, Focal chorus, Paradigm studio.

Now its between the PSB Image T6 @ 75000 vs Focal Chorus 836V @ 1.5 lakh. So give me opinions people, is double the price worth it for these speakers ....... or should i save all that money since i can definitely live with the psb's at half the price.

Great Going Audiodelic, it was good to have you at our showroom for auditions.
FYI PSB Image T6 is retailed for 72K rather than 75 and I would also like to say that you should also listen to Imagine T and Synchrony 2 series from PSB before making any decisions, as that will also be a fair test with Focals and other higher end speakers.

Well i plan to listen to audition dynaudio and b&w. dynaudio excite is rear ported whereas b&w 683 is front ported.

But i did not consider listening to the synchrony/imagine majorly because they are rear ported and my room is such the speakers have to be placed close to the back wall i have no other option.

So i really need some advice how much problems ill face practically if i place rear ported speakers close to back wall.

Both Synchrony 2 as well as Imagine T are rear ported speakers so they will need a minimum of 1 feet distance from the back wall, also in few installations where this was not possible then we take the help of Port Plugs and control the Boominess due to the placement issues.

I will still suggest you to give them a try before finalising something.

Hi, If you are stretching your budget to 1.5L, then also have a look at Sonus Faber Toy and Morel speakers. They are very pleasant to hear.

Another brand to try for your genre of music should be Klipsch.

They are probably a brand you would either hate it or love it. I tried the RF 62 and RF 82 and actually hated it, but it could suit your requirements. Never hurts trying :)

@sud98:Ive heard klipsch not my cup of tea, very exaggerated sound.

Anybody know where i can audition ATC in delhi/hyderabad or any member around new delhi who owns ATC speakers.

Have you auditioned ProAc studio 130 or ProAc studio 140 Mark II? I have recently purchased ProAc studio 140 Mark II and they are really good.

I desperately want to audition proac/atc as im a lover of natural sound where the speakers totally disappears and lets the music itself reveal the goods.

And thats exactly what ive read about these two brands ..... just where to audition these in delhi is the issue.

There are a few members in Delhi with ProAc speakers but I do not know of anyone who has ATCs in Delhi..... ATCs are very accurate but you need high quality electronics to bring out the best in them....

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
