on seeing the monitor floorstanders on sale, checked the positive reviews on the net.

though i never considered floorstanders, but my second room might have space for it.

so what are the other floorstander options which can be considered as a cut above the monitor rs6?

appreciate the insights.

Cannot say whether it is a cut above, but Dali Ikon 6 is a worthy alternative, so is Mordaunt Short Mezzo 6 with careful system matching

Through a few mistakes, I have learned that only and only personal listening can give true assessment of hi fi. And I don't only mean personal tastes... For example, I too read a lot of reviews of Dali Ikon 6 and did not really shortlist them in my list because no home demo was available for those. Just before I was about to finalize between Mezzo 6 and Tannoy DC6T, I came across a used pair available for demo. I tried it with all the same electronics I have used with my existing Polk Audio TSi300 and with mezzo 6 and dc6t and... i can assure you that Dali Ikon 6 is not bright. It is scarily neutral and transparent which is why it presents a bad shrilly recording exactly how it is... shrilly.

But again, the all encompassing disclaimer - we all hear differently when it comes to sound. Very happy with my Dali Ikon 6!

Dali Ikon 6 is bit bright as per the review ...again it depends upon ur source and amp

It may be the reviewers personal taste. DALI Ikon 6 is anything but bright. DALI Ikon 6 has the most musical, non-fatiguing, tonally accurate sound anywhere near it's price class.

anybody listened to sonus faber toy towers?

I am curious about them too. In fact curious about the entire line of Sonus Faber. Luckily there is a dealer near to me. Need to make time one day and go check them out. If they sound as good as they look I may go :yahoo:

Even thought the RS6 is an excellent speakers the one better than it are the ProAc Studio 130s, 140MK2 & the Harbeths which are even above the ProAcs.

Some of the speaker brands available in the Indian market. You will need to listen to a few models in your budget and decide yourself. All will sound slightly different.

Harbeths
Blumenhoher ( Fun or Genuin series)
Proac response series
Dynaudio contour series
Emerald physics
ATC
Focal Jm Lab
Sonus Faber
Rethm single driver full range speakers
Audire - single driver full range speakers
Tannoy dual concentric single driver speakers

Most of the models mentioned are horizontal movements and are equivalent to rs6. for vertical movement, you need to go for atc, spendor, B&W 8 series, proac, cadence etc.

Except for the below specific models / series, I have not mentioned any particular model from any brand. It is for the OP to listen and decide.

Blumenhoher ( Fun or Genuin series)
Proac response series
Dynaudio contour series

For the specific models mentioned above, which one is a horizontal move ? Why do you say so ? Can you please list down your specific experiences / check points from which you derived this comment ?

I have quite a bit of experience with the RS6. Three of my friends own them. Had checked them out extensively a some years back when I was in the market for speakers in that price range.

sorry, it wasnt in reference to your post, but the suggestions for Morduant short, dali ikon 6 etc.

just landed a set of sonus faber concertinos at a reasonable price. so that's it for me regarding speakers (atleast for now).

congrats nandan. did you get to compare with rs6 or ikon 6, or any PSB speakers?

nope. i already have the older brother of the concertinos - the concertos. so for a smaller room, it was simply the same thing repeating in a smaller form. though with this i most likely will go tube - with jolida.

I did a lot of research before buying the RS6. While the Dyns and Sonus Faber sounded amazing on a Goldmund system, much better than the RS6, the same speakers were dull and lifeless on a FMJ Arcam system (C31 with P1 monoblocks - by no means entry level).

When partnered with equipment like Nad, Musical Fidelity, Arcam, Parasound, the RS6 sounded brilliant. So as someone else has rightly said, it is a matter of synergy.

This is correct. Some speakers in the high end territory are designed to be scalable. They open up and show their true prowess only if you attach the right amplification and sometimes the right source. Otherwise they can sound harsh or even dull depending on what you connect. Folks who usually shop for them know this fact and the additional expenses involved.

The RS6 is a decidedly careful design for the popular market. It treads a careful and safe path. Hence it comes with its many limitations which are of course part of all designs at this price point. However the RS6 is one of the best bargains for its price point. A gem for the price.
