Free Baggage Allowance

"Acche Din Aa Rahe Hai" :clapping:

Even Tax Slab increased from Rs.2 Lacs to Rs.2.5 Lacs and Sec 80C increased from Rs. 1 Lac to Rs.1.5 Lacs. Savings could be in range from Rs.10k to Rs.30k depending on Tax Slab Structure.

Saved Money can be used for upgradis :p

Some good news in the budget for audiophiles, the free baggage allowance has been increased from 35,000 to 45,000.

Do you mean what customs charges for importing electronic goods, or do you mean weight limit for baggage??

& What Indian audiophile product would you recommend?:p

My 2 cents from personal experience: Rethm, Lyrita and Acoustic Portrait.

You'll be surprised at how good Indian-made gear can sound. Some of these can wipe the floor with imported gear at the same price, and in some cases even upto double the price.

So a week ago customs at IGI T3 Delhi Airport tried to stop me for having an ipad and laptop.
Why?
The dude said "ipad is laptop"..... and that is goes over budget allowance.
Bit of drama for a few minutes but the que was lining up and they gave up and let me go.

So I honestly dont know what to think when I hear baggage allowance budget has been increased.

I was also carrying a wacom cintiq which is a drawing tablet which is essentially just a digitizer equipped monitor. But in the eyes of incompetent customs people such things will instantly get tossed into duty charges.

Yes I've also heard about these guys nitpicking, saying that an Ipad is a tablet-which it is if defined technically-as opposed to a laptop which is to them easier to identify. Considering that laptops can range in price from a few hundred$ to nearly $2000 for a fully loaded high end Apple, it looks a bit silly to nitpick. My new Dell XPS with an ss drive is coming through this route early next month.

I dont know, I cant call an ipad a laptop. That's like calling a phablet a laptop. And a laptop with 3g capability a phablet. The entire law is archaic for this day and age.

Hi,
Thanks for your post
I would like to know
1) what is the current duty on High end audio Loudspeakers at the airport customs for NRI passengers?
3) Home Theater Systems are classified as Annexure II items per the amended baggage rules that some posted on this site. Annexure I items do not qualify for exemptions ie LED TVs. If I import an Annexure II item, case in point Loudspeakers, worth say Rs X, per the invoice, and the duty free allowance (DFA) is Rs 45000/-, the DFA now being less than X , assuming I have no other items of value, then should i pay duty on (X-45000/-) or on whole X itself?

Thanks in advance Your responses
