front port or Rear port

Hi all,

Which type of porting ( front or rear ) gives better sound from speakers ? what are the pros and cons ?

Most ported speaker systems have their ports in front, for the reasons pointed out by cranky. I am not aware of any that are rear ported.

are some examples of rear ported floor standers.

as are the Wharfedale floorstanders. I see more rear ported floor standers than the other way around.

another stupid question - why no one makes side ported speakers? Most of the time the right side of the right speaker has lot of space, and left side of left speaker has lot of space.

The MS 908 floorstander has its Bass driver on the sides,
but it is not side ported.
