I'm in the market for a solid stereo setup that I can then later make into a suitable HT setup as well.

My budget for a pair of the front speakers is around 3L. I've been trying to get the Anthony Gallo Ref 3.5 speakers auditioned, but no luck yet. I am also considering the PSB Synchrony One and also the Mythos ST for the full HT setup (the mythos full HT costs around 3.5L or so)

Are there any other phenomenal speakers in the 3L range that I should listen to before pulling the trigger? I live in Mumbai

BG speakers are very good. Available at J&B Sound. Between the 3 brands you have shortlisted, would go with Anthony Gallo.

Oh yea! BG!
Great in-wall speakers!
Won the best of show in one of the CES??? i think!

simply superb!

Will be demoing the Gallos and Mythos in the last week of Dec. Will let you guys know how it goes. Anyone knows who are the dealers for PSB in Mumbai?

I heard the Gallo Reference 3.5s and was immensely underwhelmed. My guess is the electronics weren't up to it. But the same electronics connected to the Mythos produced much better sound.

The mythos ST however was much more forward and the bass overwhelming in during some parts of the music. The vocals on the gallos were great, but the instruments sounded like they came out of 10K/pair speakers.

I am hazarding that the electronics may not have been right. Will probably listen to em elsewhere with different hardware before taking a call.

Though there are lots of brands out there, some brands come to mind. B&W, Dynaudio (the x12 is a pair of small speakers that delivers far beyond it's size and price), and Martin Logan.

Martin Logan will be forward and bright as compared to B&W and Dynaudio. Please also remember, Dynaudio and B&W would need powerful amps.

You can also look at Sonus Faber, though that may be out of your price bracket.

Cheers

Hi pguy,

do check out the morel octave signature speakers as well.

Venkat, which models in the B&W series should I look at? Haven't found the Sonus Faber to be greatly appreciated at their price range. Any definitive reviews I could look at?

The Nautilus and 800 series will be frightfully expensive. Take a look at the CM or 600 series.

Regarding Sonus Faber, you will find the Net filled with reviews:

Sonus Faber Speaker System Reviews - eCoustics.com

Sonus Faber Grand Piano Home Reviews

Sonus Faber Cremona loudspeaker | Stereophile.com

Ecoustics is a good site that keeps track of all reviews and you can do a focussed search by brand, model number, etc.

Cheers

The Blumenhofer Fun 17.

They are available at around 2.5 lakhs in India. I do not know what parameters you are looking for. But do give them a listen before you decide. I currently run them with the acoustic portrait Pre/power. Extremely happy :)

At 3 lakhs you should be looking at small niche manufacturers rather than the mainstream ones.

Other brands which come to mind are Merlin, Emerald physics, Salk sound, Vandersteen etc...The ones not available in India will ship them to you and you get some 30 percent off on retail with most of them.

How do they ship and how is duty assessed on them?
