I'm looking at investing in a DAC + preamp. Initially I'd looked at a Gustard X18, but have been slowly also looking at the Gustard R26.
Use case is with a computer for music. Local files only, I don't stream (might try to start exploring streaming/wireless etc). May use my DAP occasionally. Speakers are active monitors - Adam S3V and JBL LSR306P II.
questions are - how good is this DAC as a DAC. How good is it as a preamp. A couple of opinions I've seen, loosely mention avoiding use of USB, which is my use case. Why? If I'd want to use USB what can I do? Or is this the wrong choice? Anything better for the same price?
