HD Audio

Hi just thought will give my views on HD audio, been ale to catch few movies on my BD player only now nearly after a month of hooking it up.

Recently watched WATCHMEN (DTS HD) and TROPIC THUNDER ( Dolby True HD). Definitely the difference from regular DTS/DD tracks is noticeable.The surround effects are awesome,especially effects from the rear speakers which I normally found to be subtle.

What was surprising though was the sound level of DD HD was higher than DTS HD at same volume, not sure if its an encoding issue.In my experience it was always the other way around where DTS tracks sounded louder than DD.

Overall a good experience.

Thanks for sharing,sound can be louders if it is made in that way(levels are kept high)where did you get Blurays?

I rented the discs from my library, also picked up CASINO ROYALE and BLACK HAWK DOWN from landmark, they have a 1+1 offer on currently.

Don't have a 7.1 set up, no space in my bedroom.

i have had pleasure of watching several movies on my PC with Asus HDAV sound card bitstreaming to my AVR 3808 and must say the fidelity is close to perfection and you can feel the sound surrounding you an you get immersed in the world of movies.

I also experienced Om Shanti Om in dolgy True HD sound saved on my hard disk through my PC and songs sounds so lovely and way above the quality provided by standard formats.

I am not really sure if there would be a night and day difference if the mastering was done in the same way between DD/DTS and DTS and Dolby HD audio. The differences are more in mastering than the codecs themselves. I have had many opportunities to compare master 6 track PCM tapes to the dolby and dts standard encoding and the loss is very subtle when heard in a professional environment. There is a minor loss of spatial definition and a small amount of change in the bass response which is very minor and can be heard only in a studio environment when optimal encoding parameters are used for both DD and DTS formats. The differences between standard and HD audio i feel are more due to different masters which are enhanced for BD.

So, is there a BR disk for Om Shanti Om? The standard DD is not very well produced.

well the analogue performace is really good as the DACS signal to noise ratio is really good. if I remember correctly its around 123 db. sometimes i play my front speakers through Kandy 2 directly through analogue and it sounds far clear then my onboard sound solution.
