What are the transmission formats of channels in India?

I expect sports to be 720p60 (60 fps), and movies, ect to be 1080i60 (60 fields per sec). Are they actually different? It matters for sports that it is no less than 60 fps.

Unlike SD which uses PAL (India) or NTSC(US), HD uses H.264 which doesn't define framerate on the basis of power frequency (50Hz - India, 60Hz - US). So it's 60Hz.

Framesize depends on transmission. It's 1080i for most shows on most popular channels - Star Gold HD, Star TV HD, NGC HD, Discovery HD, Star Plus HD, Movies Now HD and all sports channels. Some channels do broadcast stuff at 720p (Travel XP?) and some channels broadcast only a few programs in 720p (Star Movies HD late night movies?)

I live in Bangalore. Thanks for the information you gave in this thread.

I find that Hathway cable HD signal is in 1080i at best (i have no idea of the Hz).

Can you tell me if anyone else (say, DTH providers)gives 1080p format?

Thanks in advance
