just found this :

wikipedia :
Both HDMI and DVI use TMDS to send 10-bit characters that are encoded using 8b/10b encoding for the Video Data Period and 2b/10b encoding for the Control Period. HDMI adds the ability to send audio/auxiliary data using 4b/10b encoding for the Data Island Period.
Hope DVI in LCD monitors may be used with HDMI out
DVD Players ! May b as an extra display when TV is busy :D

adapters exists ... as we can see below ..

I am currently using this. My htpc outputs dvi-d. I am using a DVI-D to HDMI adaptor and a HDMI cable to connect to panasonic pv8d. works like a charm.

thank you for your input ...

if HDMI must be used for sound (like one may want to use the HDMI AVR) a HDMI splitter can be used!
so 1 HDMI will go to DVI converter ,and other will go to AVR!

feasibility is confirmed by doors666.
