There was a Sunday, and the weather hot and dry....
Out from my cupboard, fell a raspberry pi.:indifferent14:
I remembered the days, when i has bought it fondly
Alas, what happened to my life, i forgot it totally...
It was an old model b, smooth to touch, and sexy to see
For it had a case too having color pure white
looking at me with eyes beautiful and bright..:licklips:

I checked up the cupboard again, for if it had any associate,
an inner urge came suddenly shouting ......create, ......create...
Took the pi, plugged the usb power hub, remembered the usb wifi stub.
so far so good as there wasn't anything much that i had done.
went to the net, and found this volumio right under the google sun...

vaat do you do after that, no prizes for guessing
i downloaded the image impatient for my pi to sing..
inserted the card, ready with my earphones that came with samsung mobile
took out the handset but couldn't scan the wifi of the pi docile:sad:

went back to website to see vaat this idiot has missed & to find a way
there was a bold statement which said it can sing without a display.

Or perhaps the pi is singing, silently songs from the yesteryears
and as i had lost the pi, is it possible that i have lost my ears?

Dear Gurus, i am a rank outsider so far as DIY is concerned. But i desparately need your helpto make my raspberry pi sing. Is a display necessary at all? There are websites which says a mobile phone is sufficient. Then why my pi is not becoming visible on my cell? Do i need to configure the usb wifi dongle and if yes, then how? Enthused by what i saw in websites, i even ordered an i2s dac also. But what's the point, if the pi doesn't sing....!!

Enjoyed your rhyme!:eek:hyeah:

I just followed the instructions on site and got it working. You need a laptop connected on the same network to complete the configuration as in the instructions on site. After that is done you can use your handset to manage the playing. You definitely need a connected computer to set up and start up.

HTH.

You mean i need a laptop connected to the lan port of the pi, right? Actually i did that but both didn't even looked, smiled or spoke to each other....!!

There must be some setting or network configuration etc..i guess.

Can u please give me a brief step wise process (just this part will do)..?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Subro, I just built one using raspberry pi 2. No u don't need a display. Please visit the network audio section in computer audiophile.com. To find out the IP address of the pi install a program called lan scan

Preferably attach a USB DAC for best results.

The other day, another hot and not so dry Sunday,
With a long wait paid and patience tested on fire,
We uncover a sad and silent pi, we have no say,
In that it is quiet, lonely and falling to wear.

With a long wait paid and all hope turned to pain,
We download 'gain, Volumio and burn the codes,
Nothing seemed right or wrong in this path uncertain,
All the ports filled, the silicon was given the payloads.

Shall we type or shall we not, and with prejudice,
Lines of commands streamed over the screen,
A moment, a skipped beat and a paused timepiece,
Shocked, we observed as the light went green!

Fingers crossed, we clicked the square magic button!
Ends all despair. Waves of life kept pouring on, and on, and on...

In that rhyme and poetry, I couldn't figure out where you actually are stuck.. :D :D ..

We all have been having a huge discuession on Rpi and how to best make it sing, you are most welcome to read and contribute. I for one am using Moode Audio to make my pi do the opera ...

none the less .... the basic steps to setup moode are ...

1. You get Rpi B+ or Rpi 2/3
2. Get SD card.
3. Download moode image and write it on SD card
4. Insert wifi dongle, LAN cable,(assuming its connected to your home router on the other end ... :D) keyboard and display (for initial configuration only) and SD card to Rpi.
5. Power it on and see it boot up on the display
6. Reach the login screen and log in using username : root password : moode
7. reach the command prompt.
8. type ifconfig and note down the ip
9. go to the browser of a machine that is also connected to the same LAN as Rpi
10. type http://moode OR http://<<ip adddress>> on the URL bar
11. let the moode page load.
12 Go to top right menu drop down .... Configure->Network
13. There configure your wifi settings
14. Once done power down rpi, remove LAN cable and power it back on
15. Once booted go to Moode page again. This time configure->sources
16. There add the sources where you have stored your music...
17. Once done .. let the pi sing for you ..... :)

If not post preferably:D errors and issue and we shall see how to sort those out...:)

Regards
Sammy
