I am setting up new home and I am looking for a home theatre system for the living room.
For now my budget is about 30-50k INR. So I am not sure if I should but off the shelf 5.1 or 3.1 set up or but the receiver and set up everything separately.
All the 5.1 HT systems I see are with soundbars. Are they any good? Any option that has proper speakers. Any such off the shelf 3.1 system that can then be upgraded to 5.1 if required?

If I go the other route, what are some budget-friendly options for receiver/sub/LR speakers/Centre speaker? Cna it be done in a budget and upgraded later?

I also would like to be aesthetic. Something I can fit into a TV wall. any concealed speaker options?

I know these are a lot of questions. ASking them because I am not able to decide which way I should go. Thanks in advance.

Considering your budget, good sound bar option is ok. These will be wall mounted and aesthetically pleasing. But soundbars have its own limitations. If you wish to invest more in future, then built-up your system in parts. You can buy used also. But first of all, audition available systems yourself in shops and then decide. You need to overcome initial wow feeling while listening for the first time. Lol..

Cheers

At your budget not too many options.
Buy used.

At a budget of 50k you can get a stereo system with something like Fosi/Marantz amp & Qacoustic 3020i or similar speakers. They would outdo most of the soundbars in clarity & Music & you can eventually add a subwoofer to this chain which will give you a very good experience for music & movies alike.

The better way to start would be with a good AVR and a set of floor front speakers (Rs 50,000 good bye!) That would take care of the wow factor Then gradually when you have money, add center, surrounds and sub when budget permits. That is the way I did in 2004. The system still serves me today.

Why don't you consider a pair of powered bookshelf speakers ?

For example, the Elac Debut ConneX DCB41 Powered Speakers.

They come with HDMI input, so can easily be connected to your TV. And you can control the volume using the TV remote.

Will sound better than any soundbar for sure, and will also be good for music.

There are many reviews on YouTube. Have a look.
