my amp has the following output as below
Power Output
90W + 90W Max., 60W + 60W RMS at 10% THD .
55W + 55W RMS at 5% THD, 50W + 50W RMS at 2% THD
and has separate Speaker Outputs 4, 8, 16 ohms.i cant understand wat 60W + 60W RMS at 10% THD means.pls any one explain me clearly

Thanks in Advance

First, apologies to the gurus at HFV for a noob venturing to give some 'gyan'... :o Please excuse the generalisations and simplifications.

THD stands for Total Harmonic Distortion, and is basically a ratio of input and output signals. Lower the THD, greater the accuracy in reproduction of sound.

10% THD is usually considered pretty bad, not audiophile grade. At that level, the 60W doesn't mean much. Look for < 1% THD.

Don't get much put out though, my old music system ( currently connected to my PC )has a 10% THD amp and still makes for listening to some pretty pleasing music, though not compared to my hifi setup.

Separate speaker outputs for different impedance speakers is interesting. You will be missing out some decent 6 ohm speakers while choosing, though. 8ohms speakers are quite common, don't worry.

Hope this helps.

BTW, Can you please mention what amp this is?
