Dear All,

Can anyone let me know the settings in AVR - yamaha rxv-471 to play optical out from sony EX-650.
TV has 2 options "TV speakers" OR "Audio System" , I have selected later.
By default 471 takes AV-4 input from TV's out.
Signal is coming from TV as I can see red light source active in optical cable
I think something is wrong in AVR settings.

In AVR, assign the optical input to the AV4 input. Digital inputs need to be assigned to one of the hdmi or analop input. They can't function in its own.

What is the display on the AVR screen?I have different devices to AV-2, AV-3, Audio. At a press of these buttons, input source gets selected and is displayed on the screen.

You need to do the following to switch Input source automatically.

Go to AVR Setup - HDMI - HDMI Control on , ensure that TV Audio In is showing AV4.
Connect the optical to AV4

TV out is the mode where audio coming from HDMI of that input(here AV-4)is diverted to TV & not AVR.Yes you selected later,so there shouldnt be issue.Now if HDMI input also is assigned to AV-4,then you wont get audio,so connect optical to anothe AV input & it should work.I have no issue connecting my STB optical out to AVR.
Also confirm that TV is sending optical out & need proper setting in TV itself.

Here are the settings :

HDMI Control :: tried "On" & "Off"
TV Audio :: AV4
ARC :: "On"
still quite as night.

Tried the "TV Scene" selection, but no sound.

This is confusing.

How is the TV receiving its input. I mean why do you need the Audio from TV to be routed to AVR? I connect all my Inouts icluding STB to AVR and only Video goes to TV . ( AVR on standby passes through both Audio and Video to TV)

On another note:
Also why is the ARC on in AVR settings?. If both your TV and AVR have ARC capabilities then all you need is a HDMI 1.4 cable. No need to connect TV to AVR through optical.

My TV can stream youtube vdos, I want to provide sound output to my AVR,
therefore i am using optical out from my TV towards AVR.
TV has an option of playing thorugh its own speakers OR play via external audio system using optical out. I have selected that option.

All I need is correct setting from RX-V series owners.

BTW TV is connected via AVR's ARC HDMI-out.

Remove the ARC HDMI cable and try the optical cable only. If both HDMI and optical carry audio, then by default hdmi is given preference, atleast that is the case in Denon AVR.

Thanks everyone, problem is solved. I cud not reach out to the back of AVR. Assuming optical input as AV4, however it was AV1.

Glad that you got it
That still does not answer my query?
why do you need a separate optical if you have ARC capble AVR and TV?
just curious:)

I may choose to remove optical cable and plug in my AVR's ARC (HDMI out) to TV's ARC (only, out of the of the 4 hdmi s). I'll try and revert.
See I was running my HTS on a 21" CRT TV, so I am new to these connections practically :)

In fact since last 6 months I was operating settings of my AVR blindfolded, that is remembering sequence of steps and not watching them on screen (AVR GUI outputs only on HDMI). So, speaker levels,graphic equalization, distance, Sub X'over, I cud do without seeingon screen :)
