Hi Fi Loudspeakers - The Economics of Cost Cutting

Heck even the right and left speakers will not sound the same

That's what I meant. As per my understanding, like in any manufacturing, manufacturers are given the specs and budget based on which, an entire batch of similar sized, similar looking drivers are produced. Because of volumes, most processes which can be automated would be automated for which, machines are used. This would result in small number of drivers with physical defects which would be junked. After the batch is manufactured, random samples are taken and their parameters are measured. If there is any variation, the entire batch is checked.

Since it is economically not viable to make quantities lesser than a batch, to compensate for the drivers likely to be junked/ rejected, more number of drivers are produced. Since it is impossible to estimate numbers, generous number of surplus drivers are produced, the quantity of which would be deduced from the past experience. These would be factored into the costing by the manufacturer. These are what are passed on to sellers like Jeetu Bhai.
