I am in the research phase for a high end HT set up for a close relative. The dedicated room is a large one about 35' x 26' x 12' in its raw form. Obviously it is going to require some decent power in the amps. to do justice to the space. I prefer the simplicity of an AV rcvr. to separates because the end users want a simple setup, and prefer to do away with complex equipment, wiring etc. and easily controllable by the remote.
Please recommend a rcvr. with 120 -150 watts pc x 7. The budget would be around 1.5 lac to 2 lac. I am very interested in the new Anthem Models which have measured impressively with all channels driven. I would also like options in the various Denon, Yam, Marantz, Onkyo models as well. Want to stay away from Arcam as I am led to believe that there are operational quirks. The usage will be 100% movies only.
Cheers,
Sid

How about this one Sid?

Do check if it I'd able to do all HD formats. A member mentioned it can't do some format but I did not check the specs.

Thanks Santosh - appears to be a great rcvr., but I am looking at new only. The user would prefer to have a warranty in case something should go wrong. This also prevents any self imported rcvr's. which are new as well because of lack of support from the Indian distributor.
Cheers,
Sid

Thanks Spiro - I am considering the Anthem MRX700. At 1.5 lac this is high on the list as it is within spec. budget and power. What other rcvrs. would be worth consideration? Denon 4311 maybe, or something from Onkyo/Marantz/Yamaha?
Cheers,
Sid

NAD T785 should be on your list as its a powerful AVR and rated at 120 Watts x 7(All channel driven) and its also a high current amplifier design which is even stable upto 2 ohms, its also MDC based design which lets it to be upgraded with future technological updates which will not let you loose your entire investment.

Thanks Ashish - Do you have an idea on the pricing?

I am also planning to source the rcvr. and 7 speakers from the same dealer so as to get a good discount. Currently 2 pairings come to mind - Anthem/Paradigm and Onkyo/M&K. Any other suggestions are welcome. 7 speaker budget will be in 2- 2.5 lac. range (subwoofers excluded - mind made up on SVS)
Cheers,
Sid

Now if you want a Good AVR and Speakers combo which can do justice to both Music and Movies and for the Area that you have mentioned then you should consider the following options:

Amplification: NAD T775HD - 158K

Speaker Package: PSB Image T6 Fronts, Image C5 Center, and Image S5 x 2 Pairs surrounds with PSB Sub-Series 300 x 2 Subwoofer- This package with cost around 3.22L

Now for this room size of yours you will need a couple of subwoofers to even out the Bass response as well as 2 pair of Bi-pole Surround speakers as the area is really huge.

Now once you exclude the subwoofers then you can deduct 1.10L from the above speakers estimate.

How much power you may need?
If you select speakers with more sensitivity, anthem MRx300 (80w)AVR can drive them with power. It has good audio reviews & around 85-85k.

Otherwise Onkyo higher series (8xx)can be good choice.

If you are looking at power, a better option would be a processor and 7 channel amplifier. Shoving too much power into an all-in-one AVR is difficult. Space, heating and other problems arise.

Get a mid level AVR with analogue out such as the 2xxx series from Denon, the 6xx series from Onkyo and match it with a 7 channel amp.

Thanks Ashish - Yes definitely 2 subwoofers in this room and as I said I am going to get SVS. For surround I am looking at direct radiating rear's and bi/di polar side surrounds. The PSB/Nad combo. seems to be a VFM package. Only problem I may have, is since we are located in Hyd. I would want my relative to come along with me for an audition and I am not sure if there are dealers for these in Hyd.

Yes speaker sensitivity has to be accounted for, but I am sure that unless I am looking at klipsch, most of the other brands are average sensitivity and are going to need at least 100w at minimum if not 150watts considering that the room is close to 1000 sq.ft.

Yes Venkat, I am in concurrence, and if it was my room, that is what I would do. Unfortunately there is an interior decorator involved with quite a list of restrictions and having any additional boxes or wiring is not working in the scheme. I am even struggling with 2 sub-woofers at this stage, hence want to stick with a high pwr. rcvr. Also I am not sure if in the 2 lac. budget I can pick up separates in India.
Cheers,
Sid

I have placed the NAD & Anthem at the top of my list as of now. I will also consider the Denon 4311 as I am somewhat familiar with the Denon rcvrs. Any opinion on the new crop of Pioneer rcvrs? I have an old pioneer elite VSX series receiver that sounds awesome on movie tracks.
Cheers,
Sid

I have heard Marantz Av 7005 and MM 7055 5chanel amp. Even I booked this for me also. Sounding very good with very good power. You will never get pre power in this price category av 7005 cost you around 75k and Mm7055 will cost you in between 50 to 55. And. Onkyos processor is costly around 165k very good for movie
