You should look at the Surnfire range of Receivers. Its pricey and powerful. None of the others come to my mind as being a high powered receiver. You could look at the specs of the sunfire that someone put up for sale here.

Also consider the upmarket range from Onkyo-Integra-since Onkyo India has a good sales and service set up their warranty should have value here, unlike some of the other brands who may operate through dealers.
Sid...have you decided on your speakers? It is pointless to decide on a receiver first. You might require a much more powerful amp if the speakers are more demanding or even a less powerful amp if speakers are less demanding.I am in the research phase for a high end HT set up for a close relative. The dedicated room is a large one about 35' x 26' x 12' in its raw form. Obviously it is going to require some decent power in the amps. to do justice to the space. I prefer the simplicity of an AV rcvr. to separates because the end users want a simple setup, and prefer to do away with complex equipment, wiring etc. and easily controllable by the remote.
Please recommend a rcvr. with 120 -150 watts pc x 7. The budget would be around 1.5 lac to 2 lac. I am very interested in the new Anthem Models which have measured impressively with all channels driven. I would also like options in the various Denon, Yam, Marantz, Onkyo models as well. Want to stay away from Arcam as I am led to believe that there are operational quirks. The usage will be 100% movies only.
Cheers,
Sid

The front 2 speakers are the most important in the whole setup. Pick them first. (Pick the recommended center) Once you have decided what your front speakers are, then you can choose your receiver such that they match well....to be more specific - so that the receiver is capable of driving the speakers. Some speakers are easy loads and some are difficult loads. To know which is which, one needs to analyze the speakers impedance-phase response. So if you dont choose your speakers first, you dont know how to drive them and how much power they will require. You can choose the remaining speakers after this. Since surrounds dont *tax the amp* much & they shd integrate easily.
Yes this system is purely HT only and the end users have no interest in 2 channel stereo, other than casual listening. There is a separate whole house multi channel audio setup and the equipment for that will be housed in the same closet where the HT electronics will be placed, hence the need for a single rcvr. box vs. separates due to space constraints at this stage in the planning process. But then again who in his right mind with a budget as this would want to have a dual purpose system.
Thanks George - will check with the local rep.Sid
I dont know about local availability of Integra but worth asking the local rep in Hyderabad.
Integra is made by Onkyo but is a notch higher in terms of both pricing and performance-something like Toyota and Lexus.
