Proposing to stream music from my Mac to the home theatre. Two questions please -
a) Is it better to rip my music in 'loss less' format vs. lower bit rate (such as 128k)?
b) In this setup, does the music streaming over WiFi at the bitrate at which it has been ripped, or is at standard bitrate?

BDS, you are getting confused between two bit rates. One used for converting music into a digital format, and the other used for transmission. Though they both use the same measurement terminology, they are essentially for different purposes. The first is used for conversion of format, and the second is used for transmission of wireless signals.

Remember, wireless transmission is a transport mechanism. It just moves data from one point to another. it should not make any difference to the data.

Cheers

Rip it to lossless. 128k kills music. If you are short of space at least rip it to 256k aac, which is iTunes plus format.

BDS,

Low res is poor quality audio most of the time. If you do decide to switch to hi res audio down the line, consider using a network switch - this helps improve network speed especially with hi res files which tend to be quite large.

Regards.

Will stream at the ripped bitrate, better to rip in lossless if you have enough storage space.
