I have a budget of around 30-35K. Not a great audiophile but need a decent sound system to compliment by flat panel TV. Main purpose is to watch movies and TV shows.

The JBL Cinema 300 set of speakers are available for 16K. How about using these speakers with Onkyo S3400 amplifier? Or should I go with Onkyo complete package?

Any other suggestions in that price range?

If you select Onkyo 3400, you don't need to buy Cinema 300. Onkyo 3400 has no subwoofer pre out, so you can't use the active sub of jbl. If you can get jbl 300 in 16K, then buy Yamaha 371 or denon 1312. The total will be well within your budget.

Go for any HTIB package with USB input. You can audition yamaha or Onkyo. later you can add a floor stander for front to maximise the effects.
