Any help and comments would be appreciated and here is my story.

I have a 2006 Civic model which comes only with a single CD & Radio. No Aux or USB facility. I had the 4 speakers changed about 3 years back to Pioneer speakers.

I want to change the main music system. The accessory store guy quoted the following:
1. Rs. 3500 for the whole masking & unit face change
2. Rs. 4500 for a single DIN system - he recommended a Kenwood system.

I am wary of the dealer on the following & your help will be well appreciated:

1. Is the masking price is right?

2. Which system to go for - 1 Din or 2 Din & which brand do you recommend & why?
The dealer has recommended Kenwood 1 Din (Rs. 4500) & Alpine 2 Din (Rs.8000) - single CD, no touchscreen, no DVD etc). The 2 Din will probably look good due to the space on the unit but security will be compromised.

3. Should I change speakers too (esp. if 2 Din is recommended)?

4. Anything else I should look for?

I intend to keep the car minimum till mid 2014 and would like a good hearing experience system which doesnt blow a big hole in my pocket. I always look for clarity and sound quality that speaker output as I am not a high volume or a show off freak.

Please advise on a good system.

If you wanna go Hifi, u looking only at single Din, but those r 10k plus systems.
Alpine being the best, safest bet is a pioneer single Din.
Double din + touchscreen (which is what u should install) will throw you back by 20k minimum. Would recommend pioneer or jvc here. JVC has a removable panel.

You have got to change the speakers. Components in front + coaxial behind. The question here is, does a amp fit in your budget?? components will need an amp. Else you can opt for jbl(think 690C) or focal access components which dont need an amp. But amp will make a world of a difference. Dampiing wiring another 2-4k

All comes down to your budget mate.... cheers, hope d above helps you.

if you are looking for clarity, get an alpine (best but pricey) or JVC/kenwood 1 DIN head unit, and if your budget allows, a set of component speakers.
There is a place 'Driven' at East of Kailash which has some good reviews. You might want to talk to them about your options, but be wary of unplanned budget expansion :)

The quote for the dash kit seems a bit steep. For reference

this seller is also from delhi. I've bought an amp from him, so I can vouch for him,

My recommendations :
4K budget: entry level kenwood/JVC Head Unit
8K budget: entry level alpine HU
10K budget: entry level kenwood/JVC HU with component speakers (preferably not JBL Listen to a few brands like Focal, Hertz etc which make some very nice components in the 5~6k price range)
14K budget: Alpine HU + component speakers.

the best you can do is ...

get a dash kit , it costs about 3-4k ...

if you are serious about sound then you should probably get the following equipment :

Alpine CDA 117 headunit ( best sounding single din player under 20k , with almost all the features) or Pioneer AVH 4450 2 Din player for bling factor + decent sound .
A pair of component speakers depending on your budget .
A decent 4 channel amp .
RCA + Speaker + Power cables from a reputed make ( Stinger , Scosche , Bull , Gladen etc.)

Damp the doors to kill vibration and improve sound.

If you want to add woofer to your setup add a mono block amplifier and connect the woofer to it .

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
