These are what I got.

It is very true that you never know what will happen, for all you know you might slip on some water in the bathroom and crack your skull and die.

But we live with this threat every second of everyday, you can't eliminate it. It's just there so we live with it. I am not a teen but I'm not quite 50 but I do enjoy the SPLs, at least for now.

Will get a Radio Shack Meter too and will retest the SPLs in my room. BTW, my listening room/home theater is in a corner of the house not near the road.

Did I miss something? What speakers did you get yourself?

Reminded me of our King of Bass's(manu4punjab) signature reads "If it is toooo loud, you are toooooo old". I agree with you about the way one should live life, but there is no way to tell when your hearing department will go kaput, could be tomorrow for all you know. I used to listen to high SPLs when I was a teen, but not anymore.

Not me, I don't live in this threat every second. I wouldn't be too bothered if tomorrows my last day. But as long as I live, I would prefer to live a normal life with all my facilities still working. Many things are not in our control, but atleast the ones which are, we should not knowingly ignore. I have seen one of my cousin lose hearing because of working in a noisy environment. We could see that his hearing started deteriorating, but he was not ready to believe he was going deaf. So as to not show his hearing loss, he started reading lips to compensate. He was diagonised as deaf in his left ear and now wears a hearing aid, and is able to hear normally. I would not want to get there if I can help in any way, I want to enjoy music atleast till I am 60 if I have not slipped and cracked my skull that is:).

What I meant was that we live with this threat, regardless of if we worry about it. I understand where you are coming from but the alternative is to not enjoy music the way I like, and that is not acceptable to me. I do try to balance it out.

I tried listening to some music today @ 90db and it sounded dead. About 100db is the minimum for me. Loud sure but its just a matter of picking your poison. My vice is loud music.
