Hi,
Almost all HIFI systems involve sequential starting of components example: source -> pre amp -> power amp, etc.

This is a recurring procedure that we need to do every time! (Also there are components that need delayed power on. Example tube pre amplifier will need some warm up time before powering on the power amplifier.)

So need a single switch on solution that will start up the entire system. Objective to simplify the procedure and make it less ritualistic.

Solutions:
1. Add delay timer switch - exploring this
2. ?

Has anyone tried any alternative solution that works well.

Thx!

The Harmony Universal Remote is able to achieve this very well.

Thanks! This is nice to know. I guess we are talking about this However, these remotes are slightly costly starting at 2.8k. I wonder if some cheaper version available from other brands?

The logitech URCs with macro supports are worth the money you pay. You don't need to hunt for the remote key, just connect to internet and set the devices. Their huge database has almost all remote controls listed. You can also copy remote control codes using learning method if it is not available in the database. You can define 'actions' where you define in what order the devices should start, time delay etc. with a single button.

@Rohitmusic I agree with baiju. Using the Logitech for a while now. Totally happy, works even better for my parents as the macros are a total no-brainer.

"I think" You can also think of IR (wired) input triggers on most mid-high end equipment to achieve this. Never done this but you may want to try.

Okay!
Does this mean my devices need a remote of their own? I mean how does the controlled identify each device uniquely? Is there a secondary hardware attached to each component device?
I can understand this should work for devices having remotes like TV,etc.
But how does it work for devices without any external remote controlling like my amps for example?

"Wired input triggers" - Okay!
Sounds promising. Any more pointers please.. :)

You can look for One4All 7960. I bought this more than a year ago for 1500 odd. The main feature is you can group devices for e.g. Watch TV mode will you can group TV controls + STB controls, under Watch movie mode you can group say DVD/Blu ray player, your HT receiver + TV controls. And yes this one also has "macro" feature, where you can record a series of key presses(turning power on in sequence and changing the modes on equipment like switching TV to AV mode from TV mode etc.) - which is what you are looking for. Its available for 1500 odd from Flipkart. I have not personally used macro function on this, but if you want I can mail you the PDF instruction manual and figure out for yourself if this is what you exactly want.

The URC remote will work with devices having an IR remote control. Controlling the amp is not possible unless you get some IR based power switches. Search ebay.in for remote controlled switches.
