We had an old acoustimass system (95'/96') installed on a boat but it was broken into and the cd player/controller unit and the satellite speakers were stolen. However, the powered subwoofer was installed into a concealed area so the thief didn't see it. Is there a way to utilize the old subwoofer?

The issue is that Bose only seems to sell complete sets. . . and the existing subwoofer is installed into a tight area that looks as if it was made for that exact form factor; any other subwoofer will require some carpentry.

Two rca jacks and one cable that looks like a regular headphone jack used to connect to the old cd player/controller unit. Is there a way to utilize the old subwoofer?

bose uses basic rca connector for speakers + subwoofer setup.
also the 5 channels are independent and can be hooked with any AVR directly however to make it proprietary bose forced used to connect all cables to Sub and then to the speakers. you can use diffrent speakers and connect SUB seperately and use it like other subs.

Thanks for your help. . . I tried connecting the RCA jack to other sound sources. . . but even at the lowest volume control, the sound is harsh and incredibly loud.

Is it possible that the cable that looks like a "headphone jack" is actually a volume control and the volume is controlled by the sub woofer?
