Guys,

I had jailbreak-ed my PS3 a year back. Now I want to reset it back to factory settings. Is this possible? If so how?

The reason why I want to do this is because I want to use the PS3 as a 3D Blue Ray Player, which can happen only if it is connected to the Sony Network & firmware updated.

Would appreciate your thoughts
Thanks

If it is soft-bricked, I believe a system restore will do, but if it is hard bricked, you will have to certainly go to the Sony Store, with some really good story, and get it reset completely.

Could you please explain the difference between soft & hard bricked? Has anyone in this forum done this sort of a thing?

Thanks

Hard brick means installing a hardware like mod chips to crack a console, soft mod would involve installing software without making any changes to hardware, hope it helps.

Thanks...but has anyone actually done this...is there any risk of the system getting locked if I try to do a system restore? I would be very obliged if you can give me this info

Thanks for you reply...Im sure mine was soft bricked

I recall upgrading from a rooted version to standard samsung version on 2.3.x android. NO problems.

Guys my main intention is to restore it to factory settings & connect it online to enable a firmware upgrade so that it supports 3D blueray discs.

Can someone at least confirm if updated PS3 consoles support 3D blueray discs?

Thanks a lot guys...

If it is soft modded you can straight away upload it to current version. Or download the official firmware and update it through a memory stick. It will not harm or brick your player I believe.
