ok i have narrowed my search for a htib to the onkyo 5300.but in my budget i.e. upto 60000 i assume i can get a decent system by buying different components from differnet brands like reciever from denon etc and the speakers from polk which i have read may be the best option.my question is will i get decent quality by buliding up a system rather than a htib.will i get decent performance or should i go for the htib because like the htib from onkyo there are lot of options to customise the system according to our choice like they even give gaming mode options which i fear i will not get if i build my system.what you people say?

and please suggest me good options within rs60000 for a perfect 5.1 or 7.1 system.my main usage is
40% music(famous punjabi,hindi and english songs)
30% movies(dvd rips of latest english movies) and blu rays as well
30% gaming on xbox
it should have good clarity with balanced high, mids and good tight bass .
kindly tell me if i have missed something which you all want to know and please give your valuable suggestions as i will be buying my system soon.
thanks!

Marantz 5003 20k
Monitor Audio RX1 40k 2.0

Since you are more into music, I suggest a good 2.0 or 2.1 instead of a 5.1.

If you want a 2.1, then go for Whaf 9.5 + Wharf SW150 Together they will cost around 45k

What are your connectivity options on Xbox. Since i have not come across this one i am asking you.

I will connect the xbox through hdmi to the receiver.

Ok fine. So i have a suggestion for you. Since you can afford 60+K, go for an used receiver first (with HDMI). I recently bought an used receiver for one of my friend Onkyo TX-SR 505 (10K). Build the speakers first and then upgrade the receiver @ the last if you can. If you find that thet used one can do the duty leave it as it is.

Onkyo HTIB are good for the first time buyer and for those who are on a tight budget. I have owned in the past (5 Yrs), and i can say seperate components ARE better than a HTIB any day. Since you can afford 60K, itz a very good budget. You can build a Killer package.

If you have heard of Sonodyne, try to find a dealer in your city & audition them. Sonus 2605 FS (3 Way - 24K) + Center Channel (5K) + Dipole Surrounds (10K) + Roar Sub Woofer (10' Front Firing - 17 K). If you go for foreign products, the same set up would cost you anywhere close to 85K - 1 Lac.

I also suggested the HT package to my friend, he has booked it and awaiting the speakers to be delivered.

Happy hunting.

thanks for your reply man.
ya i too have decided to audition some combinations rather tan going for a htib.so i went to a dealer today.he suggested me denon 1611 reciever for rs 32000 and polk tsi 300 FS for 21 k a pair and bulid my system gradually and add the centre and surrounds later and the other option will be to just go for the 5.1 polk 6750 for 29k.i think the FS will be better suited for music but adding the centre and surrounds will cost me 25-30k more. i will definitely try and audition the sonodynes but i doubt they will match the quality of the usa and european brands.i am yet to listen to any of these systems.i think that will give me a better idea.

i am still open with the option of onkyo ht-s5300 which i am getting for 50k as it has impressive specifications i.e. 130 watts per channel output by receiver and the sub is a 10 inch 290 watts and powered too and several other features which comes with the onkyo.help me guyz!!!

Go for Harman Kardon AV134 for 20k from indiajbl.com.

Spend the remaining 50k on speakers.

Front Wharf 9.2 14k
Rear Wharf 9.1 10k
Center 10-12k
SW150 sub 20k

The reason i suggested you to get an used receiver is that, it will eat in to 50% of your budget. Sine all the new receivers sold in the market carry up to 50% customs duty & other charges, you are actually paying more than what it should actually cost.

For Ex. The denon receiver that you quoted 32K, is listed as 400 US$ (18K) in amazon. So you are almost paying 12K as import duty & other charges.

well i dont want to buy a used thing as it may end up having some defects.
now i am seriously considering building up my system.so please bear with me as i am new to all this.but i have been reading this forum from the last week and hence have gathered so much information.it is good to get some knowledge but going through the whole forum and getting so many choices kind of confuses also.
but reading through the forum best choice is offcourse
denon plus wharfadales around 60 k
i will have to check there availability and would sure like to audition them.
i have so far dicussed a polk setup around 70k with a local dealer which according to him will be the best
tsi 300
cs 10 for centre
tsi 200 for surrounds
psw 10 sub
he said there will be no need of the sub as the FS will pump out enough bass.
but i really like bass and will love more of it.
what do you all think of this setup which will be around 70k.
how will this compare to the onkyo ht-s5300?
suggestions are always most welcome

cheeers!
