Its been a week now that i have been using a Lyrita Audio Set 2A3 and bringing the focus back on how important it is to have a compatbile speaker so that the entire system sounds musical. Lyrita Audio Set 2A3 + Pioneer CS-905

So after acquiring my new gear, I did the wife test on my system. I asked her politely "do you hear a difference" , which was better my last system or this one? She says it sounds the same, but I swear I do .

" She says it sounds the same" Women have normally stronger ears than men by nature. But may be their idea of quality is few steps above us. For now they will like looks more than sound until they hear a speaker which can provide a realism. Men tends to get excited by different levels of quality too easily. which is improved/different than previous.

Love this thread. Recently I married my Cyrus with Totem Rainmaker. A very transparent with excellent imaging.

I see you moved away from the Cyrus -> Rainmaker to an Older Linn Keilidh speaker now married to Cyrus6 / Elekit tu 8730 300b. Can you shed some light of what you gained especially to the move to the Linn speaker?

With the Linn Keilidh what I gain is an efficiency: 92 dB which is an easy load for my 300B, and fills up my room size of 300 sqft.

I have mated a single driver Alnico speaker with a DHT pre and a 300b power amp. Very good synergy. Clean, clear and detailed. ethereal and airy. I don't get a thick and forward midrange like I used to get with my previous combo using EL34/EL84, but the above combo is much more balanced and sophisticated which has grown on me over time.

300b, is a not a very flowery presentation like SET2A3, just like how men try to attract interest in woman by flowery dialogues

I think this husband - wife combo is a very over rated concept. For normal speaker / amp combinations, there are 2 or 3 things to worry about. Synergy in terms of frequency balance and then there are technical things like power capability, damping factor etc. Some speakers don't like amps with very high damping factor.

Things get a little complicated when you go into the realm of flea watt SET amps and very high efficiency speakers. In that world, things get very bespoke and it is best discussed with the speaker maker.
