ATC are power hungery speakers and will not be compatiable with SET. With SET amp you must have speakers which are 97+db.

There is a big big role of Pre-amplifier. If your Pre-amplifier gives you sufficient gain, it is possible to drive speakers like ATC, Harbeth etc with medium powered SET amplifiers.
I drive my Harbeth 40.2 with Audio note Tube amplifier (211 tube). It is a mesmerizing combo. Yes I use a high gain tube Pre-amplifier. I have tried them in rooms bigger than decent sized rooms and it works.
But I have never tried them in 40 ft x40 ft sized rooms.
With low gain Pre-amplifier, it struggles a lot and it becomes evident in the music presentation.
