Hi
This is my first post here. I am thinking of getting an entry level home theater system for a medium sized room. The budget is strictly 25000 rupees. Now, I want the music as well as movies to sound as good as possible. What do you suggest? Should I look for HTIB or build one component by component? I think the latter might not be possible in this budget. I will be keeping my philips DVD player and my Onida oxygen tv. Best regards

HTIB is what fits your requirement and budget. But just for the heck of it, go and audition a pure stereo set up with a cd player, stereo amp and speakers after you audition various htibs from philips, yamaha, onkyo, sony etc.

Which HTIB according to you would suit my needs? Onkyo 5205, Onkyo 3200, Denon dht 390 or philips 3571. I want the HTIB to be as future proof as possible in this budget as I might get myself better speakers after a few years. Suggestions please.
Also, what must be the minimum budget to go the separates way?

The way the technology is changing, the future in this business is 4 to 5 years. The DVD is dying, Blu-Ray is solidifying, and the future will be hard disk based players. When that happens, there is possibility that the amplifier and player may merge into a single unit.

Also, what must be the minimum budget to go the separates way?

A good HT system based on separates would cost between 1.5 to 2 lakhs. Roughly as follows:

1. AVR - 30-40K
2. 5.1 speaker set - 50-60 K
3. DVD Player - 10K
4. Cables - 15K

Cheers

So what do you mean to convey, does buying box of the above mentioned HTIBs wouldn't be worthwhile?
What's your pick out of these keeping in mind my requirements?

No. What I meant was that there is no such thing as future proof. If you want to keep up with the times, you have to keep undertaking some form of up-gradation every two or 3 years.

Cheers

abhipuru, as venkat has rightly told you, there is no such thing as being future proof, even if you go well above your present budget!
the only other thing you could do is getting an avr that can handle HD audio and has hdmi switching. Spend 20-25k for that with a pair of front speakers for 10k. Then as you can spare cash buy centre channel, surround, sub woofer etc.

Hello there,

Planning to upgrade from RX V363 to TX SR 577.

The 577 has bi amp facility and my Floor standing Polk TSI 300 is compatible.

Would bi amping and bi wire make a difference

Pls advice.

Thanks!

Bi amp: would it make a difference?
