I just found out today, saregama.com is offering Lossless Indian Music for download labeled as "Connoisseur's Choice".

Format is WAV. Each song costs INR 50/- which is steep I think. Yet, for the one song that I downloaded did not have either album art or proper artist information in tags.

I downloaded Salam-e-ishq from Mukaddar ka Sikandar. But was not impressed. Voice of Kishor Kumar sounded too smooth as if some filter was applied. The texture of his voice was missing or subdued.

I am yet to try any recent music release.
Was eager to share this before I could try some more.

Inspite of the flaw I am excited now that one service has started I hope others will come up soon and eventually we can expect some good quality Lossless Indian music downloads in near future.

If anyone tries this service please share your experiences.

Hi thanks for sharing, the price seems to be too high. U can have the cd itself for that price. However I will try to download some rare songs and see. As u said others should follow anyway..

@vtiwari, here are few tips.
1. Always listen preview in your system (connect with PC) before making any purchase.
2. Prefer after 70's songs (Bappi Lahiri, RD Burman, Kalyanji Anandji, LP etc.) they could be in good quality/stereo. Before 70's you may not get even their cassette quality stuff.
3. Sometimes they offer 50-65% off (I have used it) then make your purchase. I remember I have paid Rs.18/ to 25/- per song.

Twice I have used their 50% OFF, after that I have added around 30 songs in cart and didn't checkout. Few days later they sent an email with 65% OFF Coupon to complete my cart purchase :yahoo: And I immediately used that :lol:

I would hazard a guess that download from iTunes at Rs 12 a song might be a better deal
