Till day before yesterday the inverter at my home used to give more than an hour backup with a few CFLs. Nothing other than 4 CFLs(14 Watt) run on it.
Suddenly since yesterday, on power cuts the CFLs go off in 2 minutes. The indicator in the inverter shows out of charge after 2 minutes or so.
What could have happened suddenly out of the blue?

Check in the order of importance on suggested:

1. Battery requires replacement every 3 years .... maybe, genuine life is over.

2. You have never topped up the battery with distilled water .... ever. It is running dry.

3. There is a minor issue with the charging circuit or the electronic change-over switch ....... it happens sometimes. Ok types electricians can mend it.

Yup, that's the one.
It was installed by the builder, so I thought it was a maintenance free battery.
Had a look at it today. Poor thing is very dry. :(
So, shall I just refill it with distilled water? Or will it require some acid refilling too?

Probably the battery itself needs to be replaced as surely 1 or more cells must have died by now. Get a battery specialist to come & check the battery 1st :)
