The idea in this mod is to simplify the analog output path by bypassing the amp and directly connecting the DAC to an external amp after protecting the amp behind a capacitor. There are several output options for connecting the DAC to an external amp:
* Drill a hole on the side of the iPod and route the wires through this hole to capacitors and then to an amp. The advantage of this method is that it allows the iPod to be charged through the dock while playing. The disadvantage is that obviously you have to mar your perfect shiny iPod (if you don??t do it while opening it).
* Connect the DAC to the dock connections on the PCB such that you can use the line out as a way of connecting to the external amp. The advantage is that when the iPod is closed it looks like a normal iPod. The disadvantage of this method is that there is not a good way of charging and playing the iPod without building a custom dock connector that can connect to a USB port as well as to the external amp.
