Is 5.1 channel analogue audio out from Playon HD possible??

Hi,
As the title suggests i am trying to find out a cost effective solution to get 5.1 audio from my Play on HD to utilize my existing 5.1 speakers,if possible..

My present set up:

Screen : Panasonic 42 V 20D
Media Player : Play on HD with 1 TB internal HDD
Audio set up : Videocon 5.1 speaker system

I have a collection of downloaded movies in my hard disk.But currently i am not able to enjoy the full audio effect since i am using only the stereo(L&R) out from Play on HD to my videocon 5.1 speaker sytem through auxillary input.Even though the audio is coming from all the 5 speakers,i want to get proper 5.1 audio from my existing audio set up if possible.

is there any way to do this or going for hdmi avr + speakers is the only option??

could anybody help me regarding this.

If its just a 5.1 speaker system, you are out of luck I guess.

You will need a device in between Play on HD and 5.1 speaker system with the following properties:

1. Capable of decoding compressed multichannel audio (DD, DTS, etc)
2. Has S/PDIF (Optical/Coaxial) or HDMI inputs
3. Has 5.1 or more analog speaker outputs

This could as well be a TV or an AVR.

looks like avr is the option,in that case my speakers will go waste.
or can i look a bluray player with analogue outs so that i can connect directly to speakers from the player's 5.1 analogue outs.i dont want to buy another set of speakers as the current set up is decent and i am ok with this.
any other opinion on this?

You could just get the AVR (receiver) not HTIB.

You sure can.
Just make sure it has the required inputs as mentioned earlier to connect your Play on HD to it.

You can try something like Creative DDTS-100. Which can convert Digital to Analog Outputs (upto 7.1 channel).

But you need a powered speakers. This was selling for $100 few years back. But now this product is unavailable.

Instead of an AVR+Speaker combo you could get the Logitech z5500 and save a few thousands. This speaker has digital inputs and can decode DD/DTS. Read that this speaker package costs around Rs. 15K.

hi all,
after searching the internet and with valuable inputs from fellow members i found solution to my unique problem ,with out spending much :yahoo:

in my recent trip to bangkok i picked up a 5.1 audio decoder for 2300 bahts.
this small device came in an all aluminium body.ofcourse this is chinese made..
and it is decoding dts,dolby sound tracks with ease..hyeah:

I have connected Playon and decoder with optical cable,and from the decoder i have connected to speakers via the subwoofer cum amp.

now i am able to experience individual channelized tracks.

for the time being i am happy with this setup.
would plan to buy a avr + speakers down the line.
