Is it too early to go for HD DTH in INDIA??

My vote is to go for HD now, as that will safe guard us from any sudden price jump which is going to happen for sure.

Thats what every early adopter convinces himself into thinking. But we all know that things are only gonna get cheaper as more competition comes in.

Can't wait to see few more Big TV style HD DVR in the market. There are some awesome DVR's on Dish Network & DirecTV in U.S. Would be totally bonkers if something like that launches here. TIVO is just a dream. Google TV though may come sooner than any of the others, considering its open nature.

Yeah right, one should actually wait till they start paying us to take their boxes/service. After all, we got the fancy LCD/Plasma HD TVs (obscenely priced in India) for free too.

It is beyond comprehension, that in a country where a person has paid on an average atleast around Rs. 50,000 for a HD TV, the same people refuse to pay an additional 5 percent of that amount, to be able to actually make use of the 'HD' in the HD TV. But then again this is totally in line with the average Indain's logic of buying expensive Home theater equipment, only to watch crappy pirated DVDs on them.

Its good to have so many responses from members in this thread. However my intention of starting this thread was not to land in arguments on the basis of cost of STB or packages. If we look at the HD sources available for plasma/lcd owners, blue ray and media players are the best where you decide the content. Unless and until you get channels like HBO or star movies in true hd, repeating programs in NGCHD and DiscoveryHD plus event based channels will be the only ones DTH company can offer. It depends on how one takes all the points to his benefit and decide.

Oh! Yeah I completely agree with you. Having bought HD TV for 60k+ I don't mind shelling out meager 2.5k for a HD STB. It wont cost sky. And my two cents on that "watch crappy pirated DVDs on them" :ohyeah:. This thread is rocking :clapping:

I watched the Commonwealth Opening Ceremony in HD was Paisa vasool of 2Grands i paid for Upgrading . Also felt same when CSK won the Champions League . It was also breathtaking to watch World Cup . Good Content is still there on both Disc HD and Nat Geo HD + odd movies which are relatively better on Star Plus. I m also looking forward for IPL and WC next Year . I think it would be a Real Hot Deal when STAR MOVIES HD and HBO HD comes to India

Hi, sorry for a little off-line question.. but i am seriously interested to know the difference in SD PQ with the HD box on Airtel DTH. Few members have made passing mentions on this topic in the thread but i am looking for a specific answer.

I recently got LG 32" Full HD lcd & currently using Airtel SD box with it. Since Airtel currently has only 1 HD channel, my point of focus is only the difference in SD PQ with the HD box. If there is really some improvement in PQ of SD channels, coz of using HDMI cable or 16:9 aspect ratio, i would like to go for Airtel HD box.. so plz guide.

Also, whats the cost of getting HD box for existing subscribers? i wont be switching from Airtel to any other operator for this.

I have switched to Tata Sky HD & am watching on a 24" BenQ LCD Monitor. Connection by HDMI.

I find that clarity of even SD signals has improved. This is possibly due to the HDMI connection. When watching the financial channels the ticker barsat the bottom are clearer & judder free. This itself is worth the upgrade.

And Rs. 2600 is no great deal. Plus I am getting HD channels free for 1 year. Sort of balances out the investment.
