Is there any 5.1 surround system available under ...

All the speaker systems mentioned above don't have a doldy digital / DTS decoder and until or unless you watch on a DVD player with a decoder they will be useless for surround sound.

Hi, go for Altec lancing 5.1 model (vs3251)
i bought it two years ago for 7.5 k , now i belive the price must have come down

too good for the movies and music too, you will like it for sure

Sorry,I am totally new to this subject.I already have a set of 4 speakers.(They are not like the smaller ones which are used for PC.They are bigger ones which i used in my hall). But they are very old models. Can i just buy a woofer and use the old speakers and can i get 5.1 effect with that?

You need to buy a centre speaker (very important because all the dialogue comes out of this) and a powered subwoofer. If you use a DVD player with inbuilt decoder for Dolby / DTS then you only need a multichannel amplifier to connect to your 4 speakers, 1 centre channel speaker and powered subwoofer.

If you are using a HD media player then you either need an AVR or external decoder+multichannel amplifier. There is no short cut to real surround sound at 5K.

Hi

just having 5 speakers does not make a 5.1 or home theater, every speaker is fed with a different frequency of sound by the amp, for example the center speaker concentrates on vocals

front right and front left speaker concentrate on the mid and high frequency

the rear are often for high frequency

for the budget you have, i suggest you to go for altec 5.1

it has subwoofer and 5 speakers , comes with a remote too

sound quality is good

+1
If TV is the only source you are going to use, then why not consider a 2.1 or 2.0 speaker system that are available for PC. You will obviously get a better sounding stereo (or 2.1) system for 5K than a 5.1 system for the same amount.

Thank you Tanoj.I have looked at the Alcatel 5.1 model.I like that, but the speakers are very small which may not be suitable for a hall.It is correct for a PC.Thats why i'm thinking of some other model. And some comments about this model?I think speakers are big and may suit my needs?Does it have optical input? Believe me opting for a complete 5.1 system for 5K will be waste of money for your hall. Your only option will be DIY. Even then 5K will be less.

You already have 4 speakers. Even if you DIY a centre channel and surround decoder with chip amp it will go to 10K and you will still need a subwoofer.

Better stick with a good readymade 2.1 system or buy a cheap but good amplifier such as norge and later DIY a powered sub for 5K for good listening levels in a hall.

Thanks Audidoc for your response.
I personally think there are two broad categories when it comes to a home theatres: first category being the buyers who emphasize on the price/value factor and want a 'decent' upgrade from the stereo speakers; and the other one who can spend any amount but want the best in class (in terms of everything).

I belong to the first category.I am already using stereo speakers.Just i need an upgrade.Thats all.I'm not expecting the best quality etc...

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
