I just bought a new set of Pro Media 2.1 from the USA (I live in Singapore) as the price is hella a difference. Was anticipating it the whole time till it arrived and I hooked it up as per the instructions. When I turned on the power, the green power up light lit up but slowly faded away and never lit up again. I tried to fiddle around with the connections but there are only so much you can fiddle with (the black and red crimps, and the pre-amp).

Only later did I realize the reading on the speaker states a 120V while the power supply here is a 220V. I refused to believe that it was the source of the problem (as I seen many sets hooked up on retail stores with no problem at all) but I don't think there are any other possibilities.

Is my system officially fried? My dad said it requires a step down transformer but in this case, has the damaged been done to the parts? Or is there a 'safety' mechanism in-built that would shut the system down when there was a power surge? Please help...sigh...

Did you smell any smoke? If its fried, sure you would smell it.

Otherwise may be only fuse is gone leaving the electronic components (transistors, capacitors in tact). Just replace the fuse and use a step down converter before using it again.

Hi and thanks for the response.

There was no pop or burning smell, just a short lighting up of the green power light. Is it for sure that the fuse is blown? If it is, is it easy to replace one or must it be a specific fuse?

Apart from the fuse blown, are there possibilities that internal circuits may get short as well? There was no burning smell though.

Start with the fuse.

I am afraid it may be made for a different voltage, normally it should be written somewhere in the power supply. If that's the case you can buy a converting transformer from simlim.
