Hi ,

I want a 43 inch 4K UHD Tv and have shortlisted 2 Tv's

LG 43UF770T - 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV | LG Electronics In

KD-43X8500C : X85 Series - 4K TV : BRAVIA LED TV / LCD TV / HD TV / 4K TV : Sony India

LG has WebOS 2.0 ,while Sony is Android TV (Which is a better operating system ?)

LG has IPS panel & softer colours with Ultra Luminance ,while Sony has Triluminos display. (Which is a better Display ? )

LG has a PMI (Picture Mastering Index) of 1400 ,what is that?

Sony has a memory of 16 gb ,LG does'nt mention that.

LG cost is 84 K Sony is 89 K .

Which is a better TV in terms of

1.Picture Quality

2.Sound output.

3.Operating system ,can you add apps to LG webOS 2.0 ?

4.Durability.

Thanks in advance.

You can get the LG much cheaper if you hunt around for discounts like on paytm or websites and such. The lg if you can get for around 70 then it's fine but ignoring the specs on paper, visually I found the picture and processing are fairly weak compared to the sony. Also, I honestly don't suggest getting 4k unless you get it. Get yourself full HD instead.

Thanks corElement

I already have a full HD Samsung 32 lcd Tv ,

4K is definitely coming in 1-2 years .Cant afford to upgrade the TV every 2 years.

saw the same images of tatasky on both full HD led & 4K UHD ,due to Upscaling the same images were definitely much better in a 4K tv with lesser blur.

the difference between Sony & LG is minimal so the confusion.

The LG will have wider viewing angles
The sony will have deeper colors and much better processing. It will also have 120hz at 1080p input which next to no tv's have (very good for pc gaming).

The sony will generally be good for specialised tasks with it 10bit panel but the lg is overall a more general model at a lower price.

As far as I know Sony has 8 bit panel. In fact LG has come out with 10 bit panels.
Let me know if I am wrong.

Hmm you're right, the x85c series does not have 10bit. However it has faux wide gamma thanks to triluminious which definitely produces a wider range of colours.

sony's triluminous display is of 2014.
LG does have memory card, though can attach external HDD to record shows.
WebOS is faster because its HTML5 based.
LG has hevc, while I am not sure of Sony's.
I am confused between Samsung 40ju6470, LG 43UF770T and sony 43X8500C.

In my honest opinion, there is Zero reason for buy a 4K Tv in 43 inches unless you are planning to use it as a monitor from close distance. If you are talking about bigger sizes in excess 55 inches, then it starts to make sense.

Try a few demo clips with very dark scenes (night/black) as well as a few other with bright white (snow/clouds) on both the TVs. I found the demo clip called "Flowing in the dark" by Panasonic (mkv@demo-world) to be a good one for the first case. "Mike Wiegele Heliboarding" Divx Plus HD clip (mkv@DivX) is a good one for the second case.

In my experience the difference was very noticeable. When set to show details in black, the bright parts of the dark scene became very noisy on one of the above TVs at the shop floor. Similarly if I adjust for details of snow patterns in the other clip then it had a negative impact on the dark scenes of the first clip. The other brand had the best balance for both the clips with the default factory setting itself.

Btw, you might want to see those clips first on a neutral display like a calibrated PC monitor (Dell Ultrasharp or better), so that you will know what to expect.

Hopefully after the release of 4K BDPs (probably by end of this year), there will more 4K TVs in market with HDR & Wide colour gamut features. So even though a 40" 4K TV may not do much justice to 4K resolution, it will still have amazing picture quality.

Let me assume, the Sony would have trumped the LG with better low light visibility and contrast, assuming all the way that It was a comparison between LG and Sony.:D

REC 2020 is not available in any TV now. So no point in buying a 4K. Getting a bigger screen is the right approach rather than going 4K way.

So much of confusion whether to go for 4K TV or just Full HD TV for 43 inch display.

Since in India, most of the regional channels are not HD, isn't it better to invest in a TV that has upscalling feature? So that the SD channels will look better on 4K TV (after upscalling) than on Full HD TV?
