Hi friends

I have two empty speaker cabinets and looking for good 6" drivers for them. Do I hv to buy expensive branded speakers only or can the local speakers sound as great as branded ones?

I am specificaly talkih about delhi's market.THanks

Hi

The local speakers depend on what built quality and performance is outputted. I would suggest you see the section on DIY and get a few ideas on getting your empty cabinets to life. DIYCART website sell good reputed raw drivers and a host of other stuff you can use to make your speakers...all the best

it depends on what you are planning to use them for.
If its just DIY and experimenting, and you don't have deep pockets, local drivers will be just fine. they sound 95% as good as the branded ones for about 10% of the price.

the issue with local drivers is
1. their specs (TS parameters) are not published - you'll get ohms, and maybe power rating
2. their specs may not be consistent
3. their performance may not be as good as the branded ones - there will be some tradeoff between frequency response, sensitivity, power handling etc

you can get plenty of bang for buck from local speakers - the key lies in identifying the good local brands and identifying a well built local speaker

hi,

For the best diy drivers available in india are the one and only Peerless Fabrikkerne(I) Ltd.all the material (cone, voice coil, spider)are imported from denmark their parent company and assembled at their plant in india at

19, Seepz, Andheri(E)
Mumbai - 400096

The quality is very good and even the price is very competitive compared to other imported brands and if speaker boxes and xover are properly matched they can outperform the branded models.

You can be rest assured about there quality, they only do exports, but also supply to varsha electronics mumbai (prop..mayank)..OR Diy audio cart...

i am also designing the boxes and xover for my HT using these drivers...

further any information about how to acquire you can mesg me..

thanks

It's a tricky question, each speaker driver has its own characteristic, sound output hugely depends on cabinet/cross over design. To be honest its more of mix and match until you get the desired sound, there are few simulators like bassbox which can give you output graph but then again these graphs wont be able to simulate how the sound will be. It is better to look for local drivers for after sales service.

Regarding the post made by keith correa
Peerless Denmark has no connection with Peerless India.

In mean time You can read there company profile as below,
Products - PeerlessAudio.com

2 days back I had spoken to Mr. devkumar (executive director) Peerless Fabrikkerne(I) Ltd,wherein he had given me a clear picture about his company, how they manufacture few components and import criticle components like (voice coil, cone, spider) from peerless denmark..and throughly check each and every drivers at the same time taking there electrical parameters and then exports them to custom orders from reputed companies abroad and in india supply only to varsha electronics mumbai..

shortly i will be posting the complete history of peerless and also clear the doubts of my many HIFI Members...

you can go for peerless drivers believe me they match to any reputed brands in the world.

thanks

When I said "no connection", it was in the context of "parent company". Peerless may have HAD been connected with Peerless Denmark in the past but from what I know - not any more. Peerless India may very well be importing components from where ever, if they do, good for them.

The Peerless India company profile page seems to have been last updated in 2008. Check the dates mentioned in there.

Check this: Peerless - Tymphany is the Only Authentic Manufacturer of Peerless Drivers | Tymphany Now view the page source and see what is mentioned in one of the meta tags in the header.

I would love to read about the hustory of Peerless India. Will be waiting for your write-up eagerly.

IMO & experience, even non-branded drivers can perform well if you are able to design the box and cross-overs very specific for the drivers. Conversely even you have a highly priced branded drivers and mess-up with the box and crossover you can end up even more bad.

You can get the TS parameters measured from software like REW as a starting point.

I heard that what you get in India are rejected goods from the export lot. Like factory seconds Tshirts found in Tirupur market.

No its not rejected stuff that we get in india,as i already mentioned in this thread that i have spoken to Mr. Mr. Dev Kumar Sawn Executive Director of
Peerless Fabrikkerne (India) Ltd,he has clearly explained about his company activities..

The drivers we get in india especially from Varsha electronics and diyaudiocart are from export lot itself..

What they manufacture for exports are only in bulk quantities say 2000 pcs and more, they add to this the quantity requirements of varsha elect...
as they can never make production in small quantities since production cost will become much higher then....

Dev has told me that the critical components like cone, coil, spider they import them from peerless denmark,,since peerless denmark still exists and manufacture them, but many feel that its closed down.

As per dev the story is as follow's

In the year 1926 peerless denmark was formed and in 1977 Peerless Fabrikkerne (I) Ltd was established and was tied up with denmark.,when peerless denmark went into loss,Mr. Damodar Ratha, who was the CEO of Peerless Fabrikkerne india, helped the denmark company to recover and once again re-establish.

In the year 2000, Tymphany who owns vifa, and scan-speak tied up with peerless denmark to form danish sound technology (DST) which has its base in china.whereas peerless denmark still exists and since ratha had helped them they allowed the indian company to retain their patent name as "peerless" and continues to supply the materials...

If you need or any one needs further clarification you can contact Dev Kumar Sawn his cell no is : 09821229573,he has asked me if anybody in hifi has any doubts regarding its operation can call his number,,he will be free to explain..

i feel keith correa should call him since he has differences with Peerless Fabrikkerne (I) Ltd...and also he can visit there plant in andheri....

thanks

I have no "differences" with Peerless India. I originally responded to your post which implied that Peerless Denmark is the parent company of Peerless India. Visiting their assembly unit in SEEPZ will not change the fact that the Peerless Denmark website says this:

Peerless - Tymphany is the Only Authentic Manufacturer of Peerless Drivers | Tymphany
Dont be fooled by Peerless driver knockoffs from India. Tymphany is the official manufacturer of Peerless

Further to my post few correction, vifa and peerless merged in the year 2000 to form DST,in 2005 Tymphany aquires Danish Sound Technology (DST) and in 2008
Tymphany opens state-of-the-art-custom-built manufacturing campus in XinXu, China...

Peerless Denmark website says this:

For your kind information peerless denmark does'nt this,,and if you have link from peerless denmark website you can kindly give me the link,i will be very keen to read it.

In fact you have taken this message from Tymphany website as below.

Peerless - Tymphany is the Only Authentic Manufacturer of Peerless Drivers | Tymphany

I suggest once again keith since you live in mumbai,it would be worth giving a visit to the plant in andheri -SEEPZ. infact they dont allow visitors,if you are interested i can arrange for you,all the components (voice coil, cone, spider)are imported from denmark (their parent company) only basket and magnets (of different types) are made in seepz ..

seeing is believing..then i would like to know your comments...
