Marantz CDP -5004 v/s M-CR 503 CD Receiver

Hi Guys,

Have been planning to buy a CDP since a long time. Squeezebox has been giving trouble of late.

I was planning for CDP-5004 for approx 17k at Hifi mart when I came across this M-CR CD Receiver for Rs


M-CR CD receiver has an obvious advantage over the CDP that it has a USB slot for USB disks as well as iPhone/iPod and the radio. It can be used to directly run the speakers too.

1. How do these two compare?

2. How will M-CR behave when i feed my wharfedales through Marantz Amp?

Any suggestion?

I don't own neither of the componenets. But have heard Marantz CD player many times. If you compare the Marantz CD Player 5004 model has a S/N ratio of 110db Vs MCR503 has 86db. Thatz huge difference. If performance (Pristine Clarity) is what you need, then you need to go far CD P5004. If functionality is what you prefer over performance, then M-CR 503 makes sense.

Since you already have PM6003 for amplification, you should try out CD6004 which too sells in hifimart for around similar price as that of CR603, but has a better DAC and power circuit compared to 5004. It has USB port which supports iPod and pen drive. Supports WAV uncompressed format through USB, so you can have more options. Personally I feel this would be a better option, in case you are not going to use the network player features of CR603.
