Mid-year audiophile meet in Pune

Based on gear logistics & vehicles available, Mumbai Team (Hemant & Me as of now) will be ready to work with other FM's from Mumbai. Hari, what are your plans? Kindly confirm if you are bringing something new for the meet ;)

Waiting to see where the HT experts are
Spiro, Coolestone & DJ, pls advise if you guys are going to be part of this meet.

I am planning to get my compact HT TL speakers (5 satellites) and one passive TL subwoofer for the meet. These speakers are now refurbished with the inputs taken from the last HT meet at Mumbai. Also the subwoofer driver is replaced to a calculated value.
I am willing to join you guys too and am tentatively confirming as of now. Will finalize as the date nears by.

Cheers,

I definitely want to come but cannot commit so early. I have a previous commitment for the 9th so trying to work that out.

This meet will be primarily focused on HT as most members have suggested. Challenges -
1. A typical HT setup has multiple features - multichannel audio for movies/action sequences, multichannel music, stereo music. Evaluation of each setup will require more time compared stereo setup.

2. Setting up 5/6/7 + 1 speakers, receiver, player will be more tricky compared to stereo setup.

3. For advanced receivers there could be automatic setup. For others (for example my receiver) manual setup is required. This is stuff like configuring distance from speakers, delays between speakers and so on.

Considering all these I recommend that we review fewer combinations. Do people want to compare receiver X with speaker set Y etc? There is little point in comparing players since they all feed digital output without any processing to receivers (unless a player contains a dolby decoder or audio video lag adjustment or automatic video scaling).

I suggest that we list all equipment possible and then cut down on a minimal set that allows us to comfortably evaluate and enjoy.

PS: Over the last year or so, contrary to my audiophile genes I have been starting to agree with my wife that the real purpose of equipment is enjoyment of content :D.

Sorry guys, was travelling, just saw this.

Yes, I can confirm available venue - a beautiful bungalow on NIBM road, about 3 km from my place. No neighbours, a 50" plasma (my old one), and a big Dev room attached to a lawn.

So. Dates?

Viki

Ah perfect venue . I think i can see the villa from my bedroom . :ohyeah:
So a convenient location for me .

I cant confirm . But will definitely try and make it.

I suggest we take a vote for all the HT Crowd & also for the 2 channel ones. Let us get an idea of the number of people willing to be part of this meet, else all this planning is leading no where.

Askii, since you started the thread, kindly make a spreadsheet whereby all those interested in HT/2 Channel can confirm their preference, gears that they will/want to bring & also their presence for the same on the 9thh of June 2013.

If the new members are okay to attend , I would like to attend the meet .

On 9th relatives kid going back, need to drop at railway station in afternoon. Look difficult to me.

I suggest that we keep the receivers' numbers to 2 or 3 max and concentrate on speakers. Let us not focus on players either.

9th June does not work for me, as I am travelling then.

Either 26 May or 2 June are fine, or else after 25 June.

25 June will be better in the sense that weather will be much more cooler then. Of course, it can also mean that Rain Gods may play spoilsport. May 26 does not work for me and perhaps it is a little early with logistics in mind.

Guys
I think HT meet works well when organized in a dealer showroom.
Trust me it will be painful to setup everything, especially when there are more systems. It will eat away lot of time. Unless we have very few stereo systems to spend time on or we have two separate rooms for music/ movies, I would prefer to stick to 2 channel. I am not in favour of PJ either... getting the room darkened could be an issue, fiddling with cables in the dark and stumbling on people in the room! Hmmm :o

Be it any date, it looks like many people are unable to confirm in advance. So let this be a casually organized meet, without having attendance, sign-in, polling, gear list, matching, track list, spread sheet etc. Whoever can make it, makes it. Whatever is available, we play them. Some times loosely organized events are more enjoyable.

May 26th is just couple of days away and it will be difficult to confirm. Also 25th June too far away to confirm and its also a working day. if 9th June does not work for many, the most probable date seems 16th June.

Also remember in our first meet there was complaints of molestation....:ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:...now the darkness will be incentive for guys with perverted intentions... ....:lol::yahoo::yahoo: ... be careful!!

We might as well call off the 'meet' then

Whoever brings whatever he wants to, be casual, etc... might as well not have anything to do with A/V & then we just have a get together.

Heck we do not even need a venue for that..... there is a place called doolally for just hanging out &

Hemant, you have full liberty to take the law in your own hands, should there be any type of 'situation' :ohyeah:

:cool::rolleyes::indifferent14:

We do such meets often , it requires nothing ..... but friends and some "fuel for thoughts" - best if bottled by angles in scotland!

I think when it is a meet , it needs some structure - and some descpline ...:rolleyes::cool:

Well I did say we can go easy on structuring but not to compromise on discipline like you fear :D  Considering your role in last Mumbai meet (Chief of Security), we can be sure that members' safety is guaranteed. :p

We already had regular so called HiFi /HFV/ Formal /Official /Big Meets in Pune, Mumbai and other places. That has become almost an yearly event now. I thought we need a lighter version in the middle of the year. Just my 2c.

It could be more of enjoying music rather than comparisons, ratings and reviews. BTW the last year Pune meet was also formal, only until the bar was opened :D

I have created a spreadsheet 2013 Mid-year pune audiophile meet
There are three things in it
  1. First sheet - Preference for dates. Members can indicate whether a date works for them. I have indicated only two dates 26th May or 2nd June. 30th June or later is too far from now. If we can't converge on these two dates, we can plan later for 30th June.
  2. First sheet - Preference for HT or Stereo. Members can indicate whether they prefer or are against these.
  3. Second sheet - Gears members plan to bring. Note that some of the gear listed here could be dropped by organizers.
