I think the price seems to be in line with the price of the cable on most websites abroad as well. On most websites - it is around 17$ per meter. Which is not too far away from this price if you are looking at short lengths.
The cheapest I found - (not in japan) - was 630$ for 50 meters bringing it to around $13 per meter - but then you need to buy the 50 Meters.

IIRC there is/ was a dealer in Sri Lanka from where some of us have got together and bought 3806 in bulk. I'm right now in Colombo and looking forward to that dealer's contact details just to explore & establish contact if not getting samples of various cables.
