Hi,
Do you know Service Center for Mordaunt Short in Bangalore?
Tweeter is not working in one of the speakers.

I have tried basic troubleshooting,
1. Changed the speaker connections from left to right connections on the receiver.
2. Removed the plate between HF and LF. Connected the speaker wire to HF only
Mid and Bass drives are working fine, only the tweeter does not output any sound, I cant smell any burnt wires.

Thanks

I think there is no service center for MS.but Palani is the dealer in Bangalore.you can contact him.

Thanks for the reply.
I opened it up, its the tweeter that's gone bad.
I need the tweeter, with part number: M510T-3R5

There is one guy from eBay in HonKong who ships to UK or US only for 56$ (for a pair).
I contacted the main ditributor in Delhi, he quoted 4k Rs for one single tweeter.
I think I will have to get it shipped from Delhi.

I dont understand the problem. I never played volume higher than 60%.

I can fix your tweeter. Post some pics. I can recoil them. I have plenty of replacement tweeter diaphragms coils. You will have to ship them to me.
The cost can be within 1K. You can call me to know more .... 9331927102.

I saw the tweeter over the net. I has a neo magnet. I don't think there is any screws from the front to pull out the diaphragm/coil assembly. There are clips at the rear plate which secures the magnet from behind. (See pics in the attached files). If by stretching the clips helps the assembly out , then there is a possibility of getting access to the diaphragm.:) If not, then it is not re-useable. You'll need a new tweeter for your box.

@Vikek, thanks a lot for the suggestion. I will try to break it open

Pranav, they don't have warranty. Yes, its FX Entertainment in Delhi. Do you know them?

Do you think its a random failure, or something to do with my under powered AVR? Pioneer VSX 522

I manged to open it. There is nothing much other than the coil.
I tried to test it with a 3V Cell, if it was working its supposed to make some sound, this does not do anything.

Coil is the only thing that can go bad right?

Yeh, if the coil does not speak, it's blown. I can replace that coil in that diaphragm. If you can ship it to me carefully with out damaging the diaphragm. A nude or unprotected dome structure is very fragile. Carefully put everything back & intelligently pack the unit with adequate protection & ship. I can restore it back to life.

Thanks Vivek, I will check locally if I can get this done. I really wish you were in Bangalore.

Thanks a lot for your inputs.
I manged to get the diphragm changed and its working fine now. Although its not aluminum dome, I could not find an aluminum dome tweeters. There are few in bajaao.com, however, they are very expensive.
I will try to get the actual tweeter itself soon.
Thank you for all your support.

Only other thing I am worried about is, if the issue is with the Receiver I might run into the same problem again.

You shouldn't have changed the diaphragm. The coil part need replacement.
If you had done so, recoiled it to the original specs, you could have restored it back 99% close to what it was before. Changing diaphragm is the last resort. When diaphragm is not available & is completely damaged. Changing the diaphragm changes every thing. Anyways you know what's good for you and that perfectly alright.

I know what you are saying, I have examined it carefully and the person who changed it. The coil is on the diaphragm itself, may be a skilled person like you could have changed only the coil.

As you already know that changing the diaphragm changes everything. Though I am new to this stuff, there is considerable difference in sound quality. Sometimes the tweeter plays what it's not supposed to play and sometimes it does not play accurately what it's supposed to play.

I have got the reply from the Hong Kong Ebay guy, he now has a pair of tweeters. I have confirmed with MS customer support that the speakers are actually manufactured in China, so there is no worry of fake parts. Only problem is the customs. If they think they have to charge import duty, how would they do it. Do they send me an email or call me? or will they reject the shipment. I don't have any experience in buying such thing online.
