My Garrard SP 25 Mk II

Just got this for a song -- about Rs 450, works fine, has a Pickering cartridge though the dust cover had two large cracks and the clip to hold the tonearm was missing.

Thanks for the appreciation, kind sir!! The cracks on the dust cover have been fixed with a little glue and though the stylus sounds fine, am thinking of ordering a replacement from online shops.

Looks like the one I grew up with... Except that it had no tube in the left corner...

@gobble, that gadget on the left isn't a tube
if my childhood memories serve me right, that's some sort of gadget to oil the turntable. It was stuck to the turntable with a suction cup and I let it remain.

I also have an Aiwa PX-E855 (basic automatic turntable in very good condition) and a Technics SL-B210 that needs a new stylus and a new belt. The great thing about the Aiwa is that it has a built in but very basic phono pre-amp and can be used with an amplifier or A/V receiver without a phono input.

@jls001, thank you for the kind words. And yes, I was rather lucky. Am now planning to upgrade the cartridge and stylus using some options I have seen on a few websites.

Thanks for your offer.Actually I also have two turntables Technics Sl-D303,and Sony HP-169 S.Technics is fitted with Shure M55E cart.I am looking something like Garrard,thoren etc,

I see that your TT has not pick-up lever. Mine had fully automatic pick-up and return as well as a lever to pick up the tone arm and lower it - with a geared setup so that actual hand movement was transferred very slowly.

dude,
the stuff will cost upwards of 3k for sure anywhere in India..... but yeah, for dilli people, chor bazaar is the best.... and for amchi mumbai wala chor bazaar, where we get ripped, it'll be upwards of 5k.... just because its a Garrad or Thorens... not matter the model.

You probably didn't read my introduction. I'm one of the two Indian journalists based in Pakistan. Islamabad has very few attractions but it has a terrific flea market where I have picked up four turntables so far - the Garrard SP 25 for about Indian Rs 450, a Kam Studio belt drive turntable with Stanton cartridge for Rs 200, a Sony SP-22 direct drive for Rs 2,500 and an Aiwa PX-E855 for Rs 600 (very basic fully automatic).

I have a Garrard SP25 MK1 from 1965 which I got from my Dad after he passed away, restored it to perfect working condition...uses a Shure M75-6 cartridge with original N75-6 stylus...it was my Dad's prized pocession!!
