Hi all
I am planning to go in for an Airtel HD STB tomorrow. As I am given to understand, world cup was broadcast in HD and now Nat Geo too. However TataSky offers Discovery HD as well. Is it likely that Airtel will also offer Discovery (and other HD channels) in the near future??

PS: Is there any noticeable difference in the HD picture quality of TataSky and Airtel??

Der is not much a difference in PQ

Just activated my Airtel HD set top box.................... and I can't tell you all how much I agree with Sanjay0864. The PQ is absolutely pathetic.... Jai cablewallas, because my cable connection is much better. As for the Nat Geo HD, I tried to watch it but I am getting some message that says I have not subscribed to this service... I thought the first few months were free. Anyway can some existing Airtel user please let me know how to activate Nat Geo HD......

I really dont understand why u say so...the pq is absolutely fantastc !! ...both SD and HD...i enjoyed the futbol in HD immensely...natgeo HD is awsome too...and regarding the subscription, just call customer care toll free no 18001028080 and request for activating the nat geo HD channel...

The Airtel customer service is a joke..... I called them up and put in a request to activate Nat Geo HD. It was activated after some time. Then I added an ESPN pack and viola presto...... the Nat Geo HD has disappeared!!!!! And when I call them up to report this unnatural phenomena they say that the request is still being processed...... maybe some extraterrestrials just temporarily beamed the NatGeo HD into my set:D

It's back on:clapping::yahoo:

Hope it's for real this time and not just some aliens messing around:)

Please disregard my earlier comments about pathetic PQ of Airtel DTH HD. I was watching on a 32" TV from 3 feet away, so it was bound to look bad. When watching from the recommended viewing distance of ~8 feet (even 6 feet), the PQ is actually very good. NatGeo HD is really good. Now if only they would broadcast Star Movies and HBO in HD.... there would be a fewer number of pirates downloading movies from off the internet.....

P.S. : Their CC still sucks BIG time.

I am buying a Plasma, and wanted to upgrade my std Airtel stb for a hd one. But I notice in teh screenshot, the stupid airtel logo is there on teh HD version, which can cause a static image burn-in on my plasma screen. Is there anyway the logo can either be removed or opacity be reduced? (Notice that the tata sky ones have transparent logos)

HNN: The logo is not really a problem. I got my Airtel HD STB activated over the weekend as it came free with my LG 50PJ560 plasma. Nat Geo HD looks really nice, however, is the sound in Dolby Digital 5.1? My receiver does not show Dolby Digital on the display like it does with my WD player and portable DVD player when I play a DD 5.1 DVD or MKV file etc.

I have a doubt as to whether the sound format for Nat Geo HD is DD 5.1 or stereo. Guys with Airtel HD, please check and confirm!! Gannyboy, please do check and post back.

Hi Kittu

I am quite satisfied with the quality of the HDMI cable provided with the Airtel HD box. Later on, we can always get a higher quality cable once we get more HD channels. We should also compare cables before buying as the price range is very wide.

Venkat ,

Totally agree with you. I find some channels have extra brightness in picture and more treble (some hissing) noise in HD pack which did not see in standard cable.

MTV for eg (toomuch hissing noise)

The best channel to me after upgrading is Animal Planet and Some of the sun channels with good voice clarity.

Kittu..

Hey, even I got the Airtel HD STB activated over the weekend. When I connect the STB to my Home theater, even my receiver does not display 5.1 sound. It just shows the source as Stereo.
