Dear Friends,

I Use Pro-FX 14 Guage cable now for my Stereo Setup. Have this doubt for few days that the some Low frequencies are not reaching the speaker properly, So I wanted to check if there is a problem with the cable in the chain. If any FM in Bangalore has a pair of good 14 or 12 guage cable as spare, and willing to loan for a week Please let me know

Speaker cable gauge is short for American Wire Gauge, or AWG. This is a expressed in numbers that get smaller as the wire gets thicker. So, smaller numbers (12 guage) mean a larger thickness of wire, and larger numbers (16 guage) mean a smaller thickness of wire. Most bulk speaker cable is between 16 and 12 gauge (AWG).

So how does this matter to you? In general- you would select the guage of wire based upon the distance between your Amplifier and Speaker- below are a few suggestions

Less than 30 feet: 16 gauge
30 - 50 feet: 14 gauge
50 - 100 feet: 12 gauge
100+ feet: 10 gauge (or us 14/4 cable which works out to 11 gauge)
Audioholic: 10-12 gauge, regardless of distance

I have read a lot and every professional suggest to go for 16 gauge one.

So, I got a 150 ft 16 gauge bundle and 24 banana plugs set from Amazon last week. Its such a piece of mind as I got it for just 7k , while in India, it would have been more than 30k.

Hi Soamz

You plan to use the full cable and banana plugs or share a part of them with others.

Regards, Amit

I might end up using 120-130 ft of it , so other 20ft I was planning to keep as storage.

If you need, I can get it for you.

When you set up your system it is always a good idea to leave an extra 5 feet of cable at the receiver and speaker end.

Not only does it provide the flexibility as your equipment expands- to move between equipment rack shelves and different speakers - but it also provides the flexibility to move your equipment location and well as speaker location
