Need advise on Amp & Speakers

Hi,

I am looking to buy an Amp and Floorstand Speakers, along with a CD player. Which will be a good match ? I primarily listen to Jaaz, Blues, Fusion, Hindi film songs etc. The budget is around 50k. I live in Bangalore.

Can somebody advise me.

My best advise is to go for NAD cd player and integrated amp which falls in your budget and go for a PSB or Monitor audio bookshelves with stand.

You can audition even other speakers with the nad cdp and amp. For jazz and classical my personal preference in Monitor Audio. If you like rock music I would say PSB.

You might end up slightly extending your budget...but it will be worth it.

Cd player: Marantz Cd6003 - Rs. 17k,21k( grey, with bill)
Amplifier : Marantz Pm5003 - Rs.17k
Speakers: Quad 11l2/ Paradigm Atom (22k,15k)Bookshelves
Q Acoutics 1030i/psb t1 (27k) Floorstanders
Else you have to go for a Mission M34i(18k)

Venkatesh, I guess you would get it for pretty much the same price. Else you could always try Chennai.

Dear Venkatesh,

Marantz is also well reputed and they are good. I have no experience with Mission speakers. Both NAD and Marantz are good.

I would suggest you to take a look at the options that we are throwing out and form your opinion on what you want based on budget, your preference for sound and aesthetics.

I think for Jazz NAD and MA will be the best combo.

What size is your room? Why are you thinking you need a tower?

Hi,
Also look at Klipsch and Paradigm for speakers ,very very good vfm.Think also of spending proportionately higher on the speakers and going in for a good second hand amp.You might get something better for cheaper.Quite frankly ,if you want to go for towers.Go for towers.Remember if you want tactile bass then there is no replacement for displacement (Bigger is better ).

If budget doesn't permit the above, consider this combo below for your musical preference:
1. Wharfedale 9.1 Bookshelves @ 12k approx
2. Wharfedale SW150 subwoofer @ 20k approx
3. Regular DVDP (LG/Samsung/Sony) @ 3k approx (or used Pioneer CDP @ 6k)
4. Norge-1000 stereo amp @ 10.5k approx (or used Marantz PM5003 @ 10k... don't use NAD with Wharfedale...)
IMHO you wouldn't find a new FS based combo within 50K that would rival the above combo for Jazz /blues/ Fusion /Hindi films.

Marantz PM5003 is nowhere available for 17k as well as Mission 34i is 26k now in Bangalore now. I assume you have quoted the old prices. CD6003 is something which is not in stock with anyone and there is plenty of price variations.

Sub boss, My bad, even I came to know of the price increase for the Mission Fs recently. As for PM5003, what I reported was the price a member( i think in mumbai) picked it up for. I think this price holds for Chennai too, but I am not sure.

Yes you are right! Mission prices have gone up. 34i from 18k to 26k in Bangalore and Marantz 5003 is around 21-22k here. Anyway still an impressive buy at this price. I imagine 35i priced at 24k earlier should have been an impressive value for money. Now my hunt for CD6003 for my BIL and ofcourse a DAC for my Marantz CD94.

You are right. Its is around that price now. I have heard these extensively with PM5003 as well as Musical Fidelity Class A. Packs good punch for this price. Sounded smooth but this can be due to rest of chain as well. Can get boomy if you place close to walls as this is rear ported. Toe out for better results and with minimal placement tecniques these actually vanished.
