Idea is to import a high quality drive from Germany/UK/US/JAPAN (suggest me a good one)
- Making the professionals Cabinet for tower/bookshelf and sub-woofer
- Testing
- Marketing the product

Please share your ideas. It will be very helpful

do you have any experience in the Audio field ?

The cab design will be yours , or you plan to use masters from other designers ?

hari iyer on the forum builds speakers using fostexand sells them commercially etc
You should speak to him as well

Sonodyne , Norge and DNM are indians who have been successful as well
You should study their business model too

then ofcourse there is Jacob George and Shirke from Cadence who are international
that however will require some serious money passion and a unique design and sound concept

In all cases you need to have sound knowledge of sound if you are going to make it
Or then be prepared to employ someone who has that

Thanks for your reply :)
I am not a audio professional but I have some experience in audio and more than that music is my interest .
- For cab design I am thinking of hiring some professionals who can make it for our company.

As you said I am in process of gaining more knowledge on sound/audio

Once again thanks for your valuable information.

If you have money...you can do anything... Hire professional for technical know how and start your venture...dont forget me while floating IPO[emoji6]

Hi Chandru

well this does seem like a grand idea...

We don't have many Indian players in this field....

But and this is a capital BUT why import drivers from abroad. I mean you wanna build speakers why not start from the root, the soul of speakers, the drivers...

I understand that it's not a child's play but then no commercial venture is...

You may also market them along with option for imported drivers.

just my 2 rs worth

Hi Chandru,

If I may suggest, how about specializing just on electrostatics centre speakers? If you could make a world class and cheap ESL centre speakers, I am sure there would be hundreds of ready customers.

If you're doing it for the passion, the need to be a part of letting people enjoy music, go for it! I do hope you will not need to borrow money to start out.

If you're doing it for the money, I'd not like to pour cold water on your dreams, but understand that it will be a VERY uphill task to manufacture speakers, build a brand, market it, distribute the products AND end up with some money to spare (to justify the effort) at the end of the process. Any significant return on a venture such as this (begun from scratch) will take years.

To put it in another way, don't quit your day job if you get started on this venture.

Please take what I've said in the right way: My intention is not be be a naysayer, but to give you an idea of how things are in the Hifi scene. :) Here's some perspective from a well established manufacturer (who also owns some VERY established brands)

Hi frend2001,

Initially I was thinking in the same direction but I have no idea where to buy a good quality Magnet ,diaphragm and copper coil. Even If I get good one don't know whether I can make a professional driver out of it.

I see lot of risk involved in speaker making. So to start with it is better to buy a good professional driver from outside/inside india

Chandru all the best for your ventures :).

A beautiful thing in this forum is, Everybody jumps in and suggest good things on every perspective in a right way. its a unique feature in this hfv. To be precise i never been part of any forums in this field, i used to be part of few photography forums where no one encourages any one and at one point of time i felt its waste of being part of it and i have quit several forums. But HFV is amazing and i really appreciate all the fellow members.

Every business idea needs naysayers! It is vitally important to face the negatives and to be able to counter them. Face the Why-nots, and if you cannot deal squarely with them, you are better off doing something else. This is not a negative view: if they outweigh the whys then forget that project, but don't stop having ideas: the next one might be a winner, or the one after that.

My first thought, when I saw your original post, was, "what is your track record? Where are your successful DIY designs?" It might be that, without giving up this idea, you need to add a few years to the timescale, devoted to study and building. If you are not at that level, at least, how will you be able to assess who to employ, and how will you be able to assess their ideas and results? You can make that kind of partnership if, for instance, you have long-term friends with technical know-how, and you can contribute the management and finance expertise (do you have that experience?), but I'm sceptical about starting from scratch with unknown people.

There are a few accomplished DIYers among our members, and I would start by asking them why they, even those that make and sell, do not turn their passion and skills into a full-time business.

There are professionals too, but, although you might meet with unexpected generosity in some aspects, I don't think you should expect them to say, "Hey, set up in competition: I'll tell you how!"

So, yes, I'm quite good at nay-saying: I've sat in many management meetings and done it. It can get one a bad name --- but it is an important function :ohyeah:
