Hey Guys,

I am a newbie here. I have been waiting long enough to own a good music system.

1. I would use it 70% for listening music & 30% for movies.
2. I do not own a hi-fi TV as well, right now I will use it along with my CRT tv.
3. My living room is about 400sqft approximately.
4. Right now I can spend upto 10K, but i would eventually be upgrading it. So I am looking for something that I can upgrade in future, if there is a need.
5. The audio source is my Laptop.

Can you guys please suggest me a good music system? I am totally new to this whole thing, have zero prior knowledge on this, so I would have more silly questions, please excuse me :)

Thanks,
Dev

Best option is to get a stereo amp plus speakers, so that you can upgrade either/both when you want.
Topping tp20(4k)+ CA s30/Norge nano bookshelves would come in 10-12k.
Later on you can add a DAC to improve the sound quality of your laptop.
You can search these brands on the forum for detailed discussions on the same.

P.s just noticed you have a big room! It would be better if you had a higher budget for an amp like Norge 1000 (11k) or 2060(7k),

Thank you so much. I just measured my living room, I must accept that it is less than 250sqft (20f & 12f), sorry about it. Do you think Topping tp20(4k)+ CA s30/Norge nano bookshelves will be sufficient for this?

I am still going through the specs of these products, I will have more questions after I complete that :)

@Dev questions are always welcome. The forum is exactly for that. I also suggest please go through the threads posted. You might find what you want.

By the way, your room is big but budget is low!!.@Iaudio's suggestion for the setup is good.
A decent entry level setup requires minimum 10k for speakers (you could be lucky to get used ones at even less price), 8k for amp (except the Topping amp which is about 4k the downside of one got to be careful with speaker matching), 5k for used CDPs.

Thanks Rams1977. I would probably have to take two / three more months time for the additional 8K :) but I do not mind doing that. Could you suggest me what is the best entry level system that is available 18K ?

I am also wondering if there is a place for me to check out these products before buying. Reason is, as I mentioned earlier, I am at the very very beginning stage of this, so reading the specs would not make much sense to me :( I would understand the difference & performance better when I hear them live.

You can add the Nuforce dac at 4.7k to the picture too as you are playing from laptop.
[IC] For those who dont compromise : Nuforce Audio device - Dealer's Paradise | TechEnclave

Dev, basically the Topping tp20 is a chip amp with a low power output( though its supposed be very good). However it gives excellent sound quality with sensitive speakers(speakers with around 90db sensitivity) in smaller rooms. It also depends on what kinda volume levels you listen at. If you need high volume in large room, a full size amp like the norge 2060 would be better.

Dev, as you said, start listening to various equipement, understanding specs will come along with it, and you will know what you want to0. Bangalore has a lot of helping HFVians who could guide you.

Thanks @iaudio. I usually like high volume, so I would choose a device accordingly. What speakers would go well with Norge 2060? And the cost of it?

I am hoping to get some pointers on where I can check out these devices at Bangalore :)

Hey Guys,

If incase I get a WD TV Live, what is the best audio system that I can use it with? I believe it has optical output as well. Can you please suggest me?

Dev, if its for music I dont really see why you should get WD tv live. If you are getting it otherwise, then you will have to invest in a DAC that accepts coaxial/optical digital input along with usb, so that you can use it with you WD as well as PC. The analog out of the
wd didnt seem anything great. So if you use the digital out, you need something to convert it to analog. Hence the DAC.

Thanks iaudio, again. I was planning to get a WD mainly for movies. But yeah, priority is to get a good music system. Haven't yet got any inputs about the showrooms in bangalore to check out the music systems :) Hope i can hear from someone soon.

These are my options as of now;

1. Topping TP20+ CA s30 / Norge nano bookshelves (around 10-12K)
2. Norge 2060 (budget is <18K)

Could you please suggest a good speaker system that will go well with Norge 2060?

hii like dev i am also looking for a good music system .I will use it to just for music.i am willing to spend around rs.30000. plz suggest along with the possible price of equipments. thnx.

The problem is there is no place to audition Norge in Bangalore, unless its at one of our members place who own Norge products. Topping tp20 again, I dont know if an audition is possible.
However for CA products you could try Decibels run by Anand.

@iaudio: :( sad, there is audition is not available in bangalore. Is it available in Chennai by any chance?

Also which speakers would go best with Norge 2060?

@asim86: Welcome :) I am sure you will find your dream system here. All the best to you.

Dev, Thanks for the thanks! I am not sure you can audition it at Chennai, but there are members who use Topping and Norge in Chennai as well, who might oblige.
A popular combo with the Norge amp is Wharfedale 9.1/9.2.(13k,15k). But pl do check out CA s30 too.

Asim86, I dont think we should hijack Devs thread. If you search you will find many recommendations for your budget.
Basically you need a stereo amp+speakers+ source. What are you planning to use as player?
You could get a Norge 2060+Wharfedale 9.1/Psb alpha b1/mission m33i. It all depends on whether you need a source and what you play usually( mp3s, cds, tapes etc)?

Thanks iaudio. Let me go through the specs of them and also try to hear some auditions too. I will keep you updated and come back with questions if I have :)
