I purchased Acer K130 projector about a month ago and enjoy it very much but am unable to have it display 3D content.
Connected projecter via HDMI to a Sony BDP S570 3D Blu-ray disc player. It has built-in Wi-Fi and Blu-ray 3D playback capability. Regular (non 3d) movies and internet content (i.e. Netflix, Amazon) work great --- fantastic!
Likewise I can connect directly to the HDMI video output on my DirecTV sattelite box to view programming -- except when I try a 3D content channel.

When I go to the menu on the K130 and into the 3D section, the option to turn 3D on is disabled.

I have 3D active shutter glasses but the projector won't even try to show 3D content -- the disc player and sattelite box show a message that the "tv" I'm trying to play the content on needs to be a 3D device! :annoyed:

Has anyone successfully projected 3D? If so how do you make it work?
Is the only way to use 3D with a computer that has a video card that emits 3D signals and a 3D Blu-ray player??? That's way too expensive.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.
I learned, on another forum, that there IS a way to make the K130 project 3D without going the computer route.

I'm on the edge of my seat, ready to press the "checkout" button at Amazon.com to buy the "Optoma 3D-XL Converter Box for 3D Video and Gaming".

It would cost me around $250 US but that would be about 4 times less than buying a new PC with 3D capability (I was thinking of the HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D laptop).
With the Optoma 3D-XL I could plug in the HDMI from 2 sources like my Sony 3D Blu-ray player and DirecTv sattelite box, then connect the hdmi output from the Optoma 3D-XL into my Acer K130 for a big-screen 3D movie!

Am I crazy or what... considering spending another $250 on top of the $450 I shelled out for the Acer K130 projector just to watch a $20 3D video of "The Advengers" :yahoo:

Build a custom PC with a good graphics card. That will be even more powerful and useful and you can also play games in 3D !!!

K130 is 3D Ready. 3D Menu options will be enabled only if the input signal is 120Hz otherwise not.
I am planning to buy this pj and have seen the 3d Menu working on a VGA signal from a laptop.
Had to configure K130 as the secondary monitor and set its display resolution to 1280x800 at 120Hz using the laptops graphics driver settings.

I couldnt see any 3d content though as in the demo location there were no 3D Glasses / 3d source and 3d player software.
Hope FMs who have this pj can shed more light.

If you ahve access to a laptop that can output 120 Hz, then use it with Stereoscopic Player app to play 3D.
Make sure the 3d glasses you have support DLP Link.

K130 is a 3D ready projector, means you need Nvidia 3D vision Kit and a laptop/desktop pc with nvidia graphics card supporting 3D !!!! That is the way to watch 3D !! Or else get the optoma BD-XL but the former has more features !!!

I thought you weren't interested in the conversion Kit, that's why i didn't suggest it.

So did you bought it or still at the edge. :-D

I pushed the "order" button yesterday afternoon. I should get the Optoma 3d-XL delivered in the 2nd week of October. I'm so excited! :yahoo:

If acer k130 takes 1280x800@120Hz, it is good news:clapping:. I couldn't find this as supported resolution in the service manual. They have mentioned 640x480@120, 800x600@120 and 1024x768@120. If this works on VGA, most likely will work on HDMI .

Here's the service manual, if anyone want to disassemble their K130s.

i feel, with new version of KM media player having 3D, we can play one SBS file in either red/cyan or red/green format onto a normal screen projected from K130 through HDMI from PC. then its simple, we just have to get one cheap paper 3d glass to do the rest. I have tried with my 5 yrs old c2d desktop and there is no problem in playing 3d sbs files on monitor, so on principle it shall work on projector too.
give a thought on this....

just an update, the method mentioned just before has worked like wonder and I am able to get ACER k130 project 3d with nice effect through just two red and green polythene. Even as second monitor on my ATI Radon 4350 HD card, I could able to get 120 hz setting @ 1024x768 and also got the 3d option activated on the projector menu. It just simply showed message to use compatible DLP 3d glass. Then I don't know where to go, I mean how to get a 3d file thrown to projector in this active 3d mode.
Any user pl comment and guide here... on how to get the projector work after activating this 3d mode from graphic card...
thanks in advance

for playing stereoscopic player 3D, u need not have dlp glass and 3d mode activated, its enough if u connect through hdmi and use simple red/cyan glass.
off course, u need to have files in SBS or up/down type for such conversion, my KM player projects nice 3D through k130 with just simple connection like just normal display

Diplomat Are you looking for 3D with DLP glasses or 3D the old fashioned way using RedCyan or RedGreen glasses?

For the latter, you can use any display at any normal resolution and refresh rate - its just a simple image with the 3d effect 'burnt into' each image - thus no special hardware / software is required for 3D display. The obvious drawback is that the colors are very bad and unnatural..

For 3d using DLP Link on ur pj, you would need a display refresh rate of 120Hz, DLP Link glasses AND s/w to display the 3D files or a 3D player.

Once the pj detects 120 Hz, the 3D option is enabled. If you are using the pc, i recomend you try playing SBS file with stereoscopicplayer configured for DLP link output and 3d enabled on the pj. Then using 3d glasses, one should see 3d on the pj screen.

you got me exactly tma, thats only my doubt. if u can play normally a file in stereoscopic player to view through red/cyan, then why someone need to invest on DLP glass...is the effect of same file better in the other way???
i could activate 3d option from my pc hd graphics card, but then got confused...anyway i don't have the dlp glass with me too..

The 3d via DLP is much more closer to the one we get in theaters - its 'real 3d' with not much loss of visual quality except for maybe reduced brightness due to the shutter glasses.

The 3d using red/cyan etc is really not good enough - the colors are very bad/unnatural due to the colored filters - otherwise such 3d would be quite common place by now but its not.

Personally, I find the red/cyan option pretty irritating and tiresome to watch. Moreover after you have watched 3d this way for sometime, when you remove the glasses, i tend to get the 'colored' vision due to the filters for some time untill the eyes adjust back to normal - trust me its pretty frustrating see awkward colors in real life after the 3d session :o

The DLP 3d has no such side effects and its much more natural way of seeing the movie / display though the h/w cost is more..

I finally got a chance to try playing 3D Blu-ray videos and the 3D-channels out of my DirecTV box. Unfortunately, the Optoma 3D-XL adapter does not play well with an ACER K130 300 lumens LED DLP 3D-ready projector. I wanted so much for this to work. It briefly shows 3D content, then loses the signal, displays the ACER start screen for 5 or 6 seconds, projects another minute of a 3D movie, reverts to the ACER start screen, over and over again. The Optoma 3D glasses that came with the 3D-XL gave me a headache.
I had to send the Optoma 3D-XL adapter back to the Amazon.com seller for a refund.

However, watching NETFLIX and Amazon and You Tube videos in HD with the Acer K130 and Roku is still really great!
Projecting on a plain white wall in a dark room with the projector about 14 feet away shows a bright, crisp, 120" picture.

I'm so glad I bought this projector.

@jjsink : 3d can be experienced on k130 using any source to drive it at 120Hz. I have finally managed to experience this myself recently.

Did you try the k130 using DLP-Link glasses with a computer/laptop and sw player?

As far TMA suggestions are concerned please note his knowledge is poor and is misguiding. TMA please make sure your facts are right as i have seen lot of your comments very wrong
