Need Help!!

No minimum distance from the wall reqd as long as you are able to change wiring etc as reqd but you are in a catch 22 situation as the projector will have to be in line with the screen as its on a flat surface & this might make it difficult for people to sit there (hurt the head while standing etc).
Optionally break the ceiling a bit & install the mount on the main ceiling (like a fan) & then have that portion of ceiling built around the mount.
This looks much better too from personal experience.

Also, dont know about the optoma, but all projector settings are done via remote so once installed you do not have to reach out to the projector at all.

I guess i will go with a wall mount instead and route the wiring through the false ceiling, bringing them down from behind the curtains. I am more worried about the acoustic screen though....looks like it will take this whole thing way out of budget for me now :(!

Will it be able to project on a 90inch screen from a distance of 8ft???

Apologize if the question sounded dumb. This is my first ever Pj buy, so am not sure if the pjs in general can project to a decent sized screen from that distance.

here is the link'

everything nicely explained e.g. throw distance ,screen size, seating arrangement by adjusting your actual parameters.

Optoma USA HD66

Any zoom or lens shift functions a PJ has will be done manually and a wall/ceiling mounted PJ will move everytime you even touch it. It won't result in messing up the image completely but it'll move enough to make it very difficult to PERFECTLY align the image with the screen.

I'm using a tw8100 with lens shift and manual zoom and focus options available via the PJ only. Keystone is available via remote though but that degrades the PQ too much for my liking. When I first got the PJ I placed it on top of two bed side tables (placed one over the other) and took me about ten minutes to get a millimetre perfect image which ends right where the white part of the screen ends. And that was my first experience with any PJ. Then I wall mounted it. Wasted two hours to get the perfect image and gave up after countless tries (this too is a temp solution until u move to my new room). Now I had to use keystone and still the image is about a centimetre bigger than the screen vertically. It's not deal breaking but still I'd prefer to get the best out of my setup.

Now I also understand that I'm probably making it too complicated here as the led PJs available in the OP's price range probably wont have any lens shift or zoom option to begin with. And he probably won't even mind slight image overflow or keystone correction as the budget is too low to get a HT quality image. So a little more degradation in quality (barely 5% would be my guess, that too in worst case scenario) won't really be something he'd care about.

Sadly Il have to postpone the purchase of a pj :( :( :( :(!!! With the price for a screen (sorry...DIY is not for me:(), projector reviews on net for Optoma HD66 etc, I think it is better to wait it out a few more months and get a better projector instead. Thankyou all for your valuable inputs. These would surely help me a lot in future :)!

Ahh, that sucks. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

One the bright side, use the extra time to gain more knowledge about projectors and their features, limitations and requirements. Don't disregard the reviews of the projectors which are out of your price range as they'll give you a better understanding of what you'll be missing and if that'd be worth saving up for you. I pretty much read reviews (or atleast glanced over them once I had a better undertanding of PJs) of all the home theater PJs under $10000. Thankfully, there aren't that many of them. The epson turned out to be the best value for me and while some of those costlier PJs and their features would have been nicer, I knew I could live without those.

Btw, which speakers you have (or are planning to get)? If they are satellite type (or even smaller bookshelves), then you don't really need to keep them behind the screen. Coz they are small enough to be easily wall mounted on the sides of the screen. You will need to keep the Center speaker below the screen though. Maybe angle it up a bit.

Yeh.. Now that the speakers are sorted after a lot of research (getting Wharfedale DX-1 with Denon 1713) il put in all my efforts towards the pj research now :D

My current fascination for a pj started whn I was taking demos for the above speakers... But I guess it's wise to do some good research before making the purchase.

As for speaker placement, due to aesthetic reasons I would not be able to place the Center speaker below the screen, as they have to be above the tv since the wiring is done that way and the screen would not be open all the time. I'm not too worried about the L and R speakers, as they would anyways be on the side of the screen.

Ya tw480 is excellent VFM... Btw it's only 44k on timtara & I would guess ur local epson dealer would be able to match/better that price... I really love the way epson projectors are so well priced here in India giving us a real opportunity to buy locally with warranty :) ...

Thanks guys....will check TW480 out. Though currently am more worried about the acoustic screen. Reading their prices on the net makes me . But will definitely check out TW480 and its reviews :)!

So, its just the Center speaker which is the problem now. I'm sure there are ways to figure out a solution here. Once you get your speakers, first place the Center speaker as low as you'd have to if you were using a Projector. That's just a temp setup so that you can first confirm if you're fine with the sound with the speaker placed that low. Use it for a few days. If you're not fine with the sound here then there's no other solution but to get the acoustic screen. BUT, if you are fine with the sound quality then you can maybe have a dual setup. You keep the Center speaker right where you want to place right now. But keep the center speaker chord long enough to pick it up and place it below the screen whenever you are using the PJ. Not the best solution but it can't hurt to try. Maybe you'll find the workaround good enough to not waste your money on an acoustic screen. :)
