SONODYNE has upgraded the SONUS C2401 centre speaker to C2501.
The upgrade invoves the replacement of the 4 inch woofers by 5 inch woofers, it seems.

The spec of this center channel says the below power handling:

POWER HANDLING 30 W continuous pink noise (AES),
60 W program

Does this mean the RMS power handling is only 30W?
Isn't it low for a center speaker?

I think it is 60W power handling... If the power handling is less, it guess it will be easy for an amplifier to drive it..

While I agree that the olden speakers had this issue, the new gen ones can drive even if the power is less for the amp.

So they hiked the prices

Why price it higher and then offer a 10% discount? This issue is not with Sonodyne alone, most of the speaker manufacturers or electronics companies follow this route. May be to make a quick buck from the ignorant ones who don't ask for discounts.

Any idea on the pricing ?

The price is 9.7K in Calcutta.

The price listed by me was on the basis of what the sonodyne showroom guy at Kolkata told me. Now I think I did not hear him properly as the price quoted in Hifimart is 7.9K. I have to reconfirm again from sonodyne once I go there for demo. Last time they were unable to provide the demo as the demo set was not available with them.

So I guess, the price is 7.9K and not 9.7K.

Even if somebody asks for discount they can excuse by saying "we already did which was possible" :ohyeah:

Assuming a 10% discount on 7.9K, makes it 7K net.. which seems a good deal...

Thinking if i should trade my Sonus C2401 for Sonus C2501....:)

I don't know if Sonodyne is offering any discount at this time of the year. Do you have any specific info regarding their discount like their 26% Republic Day discount?

By the way, even I am planning to buy Sonus C2501 [ or some other brand in that range] as my first centre for Yamaha 373. Do you have any advice for me?

Last year Sonodyne offered 26% discount for Durge Pooja in Kolkatta only... Hopefullt they might offer this year too... Though not sure.... If you get, you would be lucky...

As per the specs, Sous C2501 is 90db efficiency @ 8 Ohms...So it is an easy load for any amplifier to drive it.... Go for it if you like them after your audition...

What are the other center speakers that you have shortlisted...

Hope to look forward to durga puja/ discount.
I plan to demo it within a week or so and would like to purchase it if I like the output. I plan to add Sonodyne FS during puja/ discount.

Though I have short listed few, but getting demo [for budget centres] is becoming very difficult here. And even if the demo is available, can't have it with the same avr I have. By the way, regarding the centre speakers, I am already having a discussion here - http://www.hifivision.com/what-should-i-buy/45277-speakers-centre-yamaha-avr-v373-budget-10k.html and you had replied here to. Please have a look if you have time.

Thanks.

Thanks.

If you plan for Sonodyne Sonus FS, then better you stick to Sonus C2501 center channel speaker for uniformity across L C R... BTW i thought u were looking for a BS in 10K range...
